Oh dear you need the special can locking kit with the tdc locking pins ,Reno's are a ##&&% to work on I know I got a modus 1.6 its the same set up ,they also use a dephaser cam gear so if it starts to make a rattling sound on start up get it changed , only use synthetic oil and change the filter twice a year because they are so small , buy a can of silicon spray and spray every electrical connection and fuse box ,these things are prone to damp ,
Hope it helps you ,good luck !

There is a perfect book for repairing this car on your own. Give it a try

I changed the timing belt a few years ago. I didn't use any locking kit. The hole to lock it is inaccessible. It looks possible in the Haynes book but it isn't. I marked up everything with a white pen and took the chance of nothing moving. It worked fine and I saved 500£/€\$. I took my time when I didn't need the car.

You cannot do this with the diesel engine variants without running a real risk of the camshaft moving relative to the camshaft Marking the parts simply doesn't work as the crankshaft pulley is not keyed the the crankshaft on the diesels.
@cjrc your diesel has a timing belt? What engine is this exactly?
@oldturkey03 1.5
@cjrc Awesome and I just found the tools for it as well. I thought it was uncommon for a Diesel to have a belt vs a chain but I guess Nissan/Renault built a pretty good engine with it.
