Background and Identification
The Renault Mégane is a small family vehicle manufactured by Renault, a French car manufacturer. It began production in 1995 as the successor to the Renault 19. The Renault Mégane includes three- and five-door hatchback, saloon, coupe, convertible, and estate style bodies throughout four generations.
The Renault Mégane II (2002-2009) was launched in September 2002. The Renault Mégane II was voted the European Car of the Year in 2003 and received a five-star safety rating in the EuroNCAP crash test. It was the first small family car to receive the five-star safety rating. It was available in two-door convertible, three-door hatchback (“Sport Hatch”), four-door saloon/sedan (Sport Saloon), and five-door estate (Sport Tourer/Grandtour) and five-door hatchback (“Hatch”) body styles. It included either four-speed automatic, five-speed manual, or six-speed manual transmission options.
The Renault Mégane II was a showcase for several innovative technologies developed by Renault during the 2000s. For example, the Mégane II included the first keyless ignition system in its class and a panoramic glass sunroof in some models. In Brazil, Renault launched a “Hi-Flex” version which can run with either unleaded gasoline or ethanol.
Renault automobiles can be identified by the Renault emblem, which portrays a diamond with flattened top and bottom points. The Mégane II topped the French car sales charts during its first full year of sales, with 198,874 registered in 2003.
