What could stop it from booting when optical drive is connected?

Won't boot, I get blue screen only. When optical drive is disconnected, it works. Replaced the optical drive and hard drive without solving the problem. Is it the optical drive data cable or something else?

the SATA cable could be damaged, they can be a system killer, my pc wouldn't boot a few months ago, and after a new motherboard, and new RAM, it turned out that the SATA cable was the culprit, the logic board, might be bad (worse case scenario)
