Can you replace just the port on the logic board or do you have to replace the whole logic board?

I do not think it would be a good project for the average DIYer - and never a novice.

Removing and replacing logic board components requires special tools and lots of practice (It's not like soldering a lamp cord or speaker wire). A vendor who rebuilds logic boards, or a computer/small electronics shop may have the skill, equipment and parts but the "shade tree" DIY fix would be a complete logic board replace (also an advanced repair). You could remove the logic board and save that expense if you feel up to it.
