The Toshiba Tecra M2 model was useful in the business field for its lightweight design and bluetooth capability.

Why is my touchpad not responding anymore?

The touchpad isn't responding to anything right now but I can use a mouse in the USB port. How can I fix the touchpad?

Does your laptop have a keyboard shortcut that disables the touchpad? I think off the top of my head Toshiba uses the Function + F9 key to turn on and off the touchpad. Some even had a button right next to the touchpad that performs the same function.

You may need to update the touchpad's driver. Which can found here at the Toshiba Software & Support page

That’s a good idea, but that’s not always the case.

One of the issues is that your laptop is old and the laptop dies / runs out of battery, so the mouse pad goes filty and stops working . The only way I’ve found is that you use a usb and connect and mouse to the laptop.
