How to clean the tip

I have just bought a copper sponge, but i dont know how to use it properly. Can someone give me some advice please

Once you are done soldering, you should put a small amount of solder on your tip. This solder creates a protective barrier against the element and make sure that your tip stays as good as new.

Yes you will want to simply wipe the tip onto the sponge. That will remove any excess and clean it off.
