I found this topic after having my controller keep slowly moving upwards all the time, but thought the idea of just buying a new controller, a bit too excessive.

So I played around with various other options and finally fixed it by moving the stick in different positions and blowing as hard as I could around the ball at the base of the controller stick, to remove any dust etc which may of got inside.

It works perfectly now.

You can use the ps4 web browser to know when it's fixed, by moving the cursor in different directions and then see if it carry's on moving by itself or not

Update: I also found it useful to get a thin piece of card (about 5mm's wide) and slide it down between then start to rotate the controller stick, as this removes other gunk that blowing wont always get rid off.

My right analog stick would move up on its own at random and I tried everything from resetting it, to opening it up to clean all of the contacts and prop up the little squishy bit that presses the plastic circuit to make contact with the circuit board. I spent about three hours trying things, putting the controller back together, trying it out, and starting over. I just found this comment and tried it out, and now it works perfectly

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

It work's for me,THANKS!

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Water use isnt advised as it can cause damage to electronics inside, making the issue worse. If you want to try an alternative to a repair service, try spraying compressed air onto the balls of both analogues, this will clean it out and hopefully sort your issue, never use your own breath as it can leave moisture inside, having the same effect as putting water onto it

crwdns2944067:03crwdne2944067:0:

Is there a potential for it to fix itself if you do use your breath? Maybe it can be dried with compressed air?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Try soaking it in soap then put it in the microwave

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Soap and microwave worked for me

Finally!!! This is it guys! Thank you so much dude. I bought a brand new controller and had this issue on my r3. So close to perfect yet so far, until now. Thanks again

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

Marcelo Marques, that is the sign of a wore out analog controller. You will have to replace it. The controller is available at places like this This will require to unsolder the old one and then resolder the new controller. Hope this helps, good luck.

crwdns2944067:04crwdne2944067:0:

I remember on the ps3 controllers all you had to do was clean certain contacts inside the controller, is this not possible with dualshock 4? Is replacing the analog stick the only option?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Mine is new and it does it too.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Had the same problem replaced the stick and it's still there, might be a chipset or board problem??

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Mine still won't work try what y'all said and still moves on its own

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

I had the same problem but I guess i had to trick my way through it...lol! When it shifts to the unwanted position calibrate it and make sure no button is pressed during calibration...this is more like making a new setting over the default. Thank me later... cheers

Yes but mine, i will flick it to the left and my character on the game fortnite and call of duty, will swing to the right, and i dont know what to do

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Try turning your controller round the other way. :)

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

I had the same problem. I opened up my controller and removes the thumb stick. I opened up the green box on the left of the analog stick on the there was some black residue on the contact. I cleaned it out with rubbing alcohol and it works fine now.

Hey i have a little question. How many percent rubbling alcohol did you used actually becaue i have the same problem i really need to know how i will do it myself .

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

If you want honesty, I was reading this thread while I fixed it, I hammer punched it fairly lightly, it worked, but I could lock the analog stick to the left, I put some water on the left side of the left analog stick's ball, now it works fine!

I'm not sure why these joystick modules dont have dielectric grease inside their housings. It would keep contact on the inside making external particles less of an issue. I opened mine up, blew it out, and put a tiny dab of silicone grease in them. Another fix would be prevention. Wash your hands before use, and stop eating and playing games at the same time! All that worthless crap you put in your bodies as snacks are really screwing up your equipment. Also , try turning down movement sensitivity to compensate until you can't, then buy a new one. Playstation is better than all those other aftermarket hardware makers.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

easy answer. manufacturers want you to buy a new one, not fix the one you already paid for:) cheers.
