Can I use the internal drive as a SATA optical drive?

I have a newer Apple USB SuperDrive. I want to take the internal drive out of its casing and use it in another drive enclosure as a SATA optical drive. Can I do this?

It is a USB case. I did open it and it looks like it may not work. Connections are soldered, I believe, unless there is an adapter I can use.
