pismo not getting power when power cord is attached.

My pismo was working perfect one day and the next would not power on. If I attach the power, it does not show the battery receiving any power from it thus not turning on. I have tried other power adapters that are proven to be good power sources but with no luck. Any ideas on where the problem may be?

I had a Pismo conk out on me after having been in storage for a while. In the end, I opened up the machine and replaced the little battery on the logic board and it started back up again. But there are folks online who are saying that you might not even have to replace that battery -- just remove it, restart the computer, then plug the battery back in to recharge it. Here's that thread with all the details: http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/inde...

Not sure if this is your problem, since it sounds like your machine hasn't been in storage. But it might be worth a try!

I noticed same thing after my Pismo sat idle for a long time, it wouldn't boot at all. simply unplugging the little battery on the logic board allowed it to boot again.

Thanks for all the info. I have not had any luck with the pismo getting power but I will check the DC board, Thanks so much.

It sounds like your DC-in board has failed. Unfortunately, iFixit is currently out of stock on this item, but here is the link to the page anyways. You can find the apple Part # and maybe search google to find another site that might have one.

Tyler - Would you take the step and purchase the DC Sound card or would you suggest getting it checked out first. How strongly do you feel that it is the problem? Thanks for your time - Gary

I had a similar sounding problem with my Pismo, except that the power was intermittent - if I wiggled the power connector I could get it to work. I removed the DC board according to the ifixit repair guide and resoldered the connection between the board and the connector - everything was fine again. I think the years of plugging/unplugging the adapter stressed the connection on the board and/or there was a weak solder joint - it does seem to be a bit of a stress point as the plug fits very tightly.

can you get power at all if you gently wiggle the adapter connector when plugged in? if so try resoldering the connector. if not, then as mentioned above it's likely a bad DC board.

I have attempted to wiggle it to see if I can get power but with no luck.

ok so if it's not intermittent then maybe good chance it's the DC board itself. since ifixit is out of stock, I know for sure there are other sites you can find on google selling this board and other ... PB parts ... I've seen the DC board listed elsewhere (but it's cheaper here on ifixit!) Not sure what else you can try short of replacing the board...

Definitely works unplugging the pram battery!

Easy to try and don't cost anything!

Give it a try first :-)
