I have Sony CCD-F55 Video Camera Recorder. The only thing it will do is tape ejection. I have try many things including cleaning the Video Head and same results. What is your recommendations? I am getting a blinking arrow point up in the viewfinder. I have many family tape recordings that I would like to transfer over to digital.
Thank You,
Paul Wojciechowski

I bought a Sony handycam video from ebay, It was in the original box & I was told it belonged to the persons parents but they never used it. The battery was probably dead and needed a new one but other than that was in great shape. I got it and even with the AC adapter plug it wouldn’t power on. What do you think is the problem? I can still send it back but if it is an easy fix I got it at a great deal? And mine got demolished when we moved but all of our videos were in a safe place. pam_adams@hotmail.com 1/18/2020

My Sony Handycam CCD-TR5 Video 8 plays only static on video tapes that were recorded with it decades ago. I haven’t used it in several years and it did play then. So time is all that occurred between working and not working. The tape loads and reels are turning. FF/RW work while playing or not as well as pause. The unit was stored in its zipped bag and no evidence of much dirt, dust, or moisture. I have several tapes that I want to convert. I may just send them to Costco for conversion at $24 per two hours, but it takes several weeks lead time. Haven’t tried cleaning the heads. I’ll see if I can find a cleaning cassette or manual method, but with 100 static I’m not sure that’s going to help. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Jim

I got a Sony Handycam CCD-TR705E Hi8 PAL for free and I was hoping as well to digitise my many Hi8 and Video 8 tapes from the 1990's, but I have the same problem as you. The mechanics work but the image in the viewfinder is all fuzzy static images, if I FFW the tape, sometimes I can distinguish a silhouette in the image (old interviews). The sound comes out well though (so I know that there's a video sequence on my tape). In Record mode, the camera shows a greyish embossed-like image of some motives depending on exposure and zoom. Did you find any fix since 2020? Thanks. Jean

A vintage repair guy took one look and said it was too old to fix 100 bad capacitors. I just bought a newer Handycam one on Ebay. Everything transferred fine with my old Hauppauge HD PVR. Any old composite signal digitizer will work.
