Sony GTK-XB5 Troubleshooting

The device will not turn on when the button is pressed.

Make sure power cord is plugged in securely to both the speaker and the outlet. If not, you may need to replace the surge fuse using this guide.

Switch outlets, and attempt to turn the speaker on again.

This issue may require the replacement of hardware and/or wiring. Please consult the Sony GTK-XB5 replacement guides or replace the surge fuse using this guide

The speaker is turning on but will have a humming or buzzing noise when playing music or when the device is idle.

See subtopic above.

If it is not a power connection issue, you may have a faulty power cord. Using the same power cord, plug into another appliance and turn on. If the new device does not turn on, replace AV cable. Appliance AV cables can be found at most electronics stores.

If issue is not resolved, the speaker may need internal repair. Try replacing the input jacking using this guide. Consult either the Sony GTK-XB5 replacement guides or a professional.

Your noise filter may not be working properly. Install a new noise filter, which are available at audio device retail stores, to the AC power cord.

You are unable to pair the device of your choosing to the speaker.

If your speaker cannot be connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth, first check to see if there is an issue with the smartphone. If it is not working with the device but Bluetooth is on, it may be connected to a different device. Make sure the speaker is paired to the device you are using. Lastly, if all else fails reset the speaker back to factory mode by first unplugging the device and replugging it back in. Then, hold down the 'Function' and the 'Volume (-)' button for 5 seconds.

This issue can occur for multiple reasons. First check that the speaker is in the pairing state, not the pairing standby state. Next, make sure the device you are attempting to pair with the speaker is within a close enough proximity of the speaker to pair. If neither of the previous solutions solved the issue, turn bluetooth off on both devices and retry. Lastly, if all else fails reset the speaker back to factory mode by first unplugging the device and replugging it back in. Then, hold down the 'Function' and the 'Volume (-)' button for 5 seconds. The device is not able to produce sound or sound is playing intermittently and inconsistently.

Check to make sure the device is not set to 'Mute'. Check the sound at different volume levels to see if symptoms subside this way. If symptoms persist, make sure that that speaker itself isn’t the problem and perform a Tone Test. Play different tones through the speaker to see if it will support certain pitches. If the speaker fails this test, there may be internal electrical issues with your speaker and you will need to consult either our replacement guides or a professional. If the speaker passes this test, try setting the AV receiver to a different Surround Sound mode. Make sure the device is set to the right audio input.

Check every speaker connected to make sure the AV receivers are securely hooked up. Make sure that all cables (if used) are connected and secured properly. Make sure audio cables are secured in their respective slots. If problem still exists, you may have to replace the input jack using this guide.

Try plugging the HDMI cord into different HDMI slots to make sure that the HDMI slot previously used isn’t the problem. Try switching out the HDMI cord (if using one) with a different one to make sure the problem is not the connection. Check to see that 'Demonstration Mode' is not turned on by pressing the 'light' button. Reset the speaker back to factory mode by first unplugging the device and replugging it back in. Then, hold down the 'Function' and the 'Volume (-)' button for 5 seconds.

No sound is coming from the speaker upon connecting to a TV and/or home stereo system.

First check that the TV or home stereo system is supportive of the HDMI (ARC) feature. You may need to consult the manual of your device. If the device does not support the HDMI (ARC) feature, you will need to use one of the other connection options listed below. If the device does support the feature, check the connection of the cable between the two devices. Switch to the input setting for HDMI input on the TV or the home stereo system.

Connect a Coaxial Digital Cable, Optical Digital Cable , or Audio cable to the respective audio output jack of the TV. Connect the other end of the cable to the corresponding jacks on the AV receiver or home theater system. Turn on the TV. Set the TV sound to the desired setting of either fixed or variable. Fixed-audio does not change the home stereo system's volume when changing the volume of the TV, while variable-audio does change the system's volume. Turn on the AV receiver or home theater system and set to the proper input. If problem is still present, you may have to replace the audio input using this guide.
