Soda is not Fizzy Enough
Finished soda is flat, it does not have enough bubbles.
Water Temperature is Incorrect
Using warm water generally results in fewer bubbles. Cold water is recommended for best results.
Start with Carbonated Water
Using carbonated water, that is unflavored, will result in more bubbles. You will be adding additional carbonation and the soda will have more overall fizz.
The Loader Tab is Immobile
When pressure is applied to the lever, it does not move.
Incorrect Starting Angle
The nozzle and tab should be angled away from the SodaStream before the bottle is inserted. The tab may be caught, try gently lifting the tab away from the body of the machine.
Hear Gas Escaping
You hear a high pitched noise coming from your machine
Carbonation Canister is Loose
If the Carbonation canister is not set firmly, you may hear excess gas leaving the machine. This can be caused by having worn out or too many washers, or if the canister is not screwed in enough. Make sure the canister is securely fastened before and after use.
*Note: Recent carbonation bottles have been recalled due to the possibility of bursting under pressure. If this issue of gas escaping occurs, and your bottle was purchased between Feb. 2016 and Jan. 2017, consider changing out the canister and checking if your bottle was part of the recall.
Gas Tube is Loose
The 2" long white gas tube on some models can become loose. This is located in the connection area and goes inside your bottle. You will feel the CO2 escaping as you press the lever on the top of the machine to dispense the gas. Tighten down and proceed as normal.
SodaStream is Unresponsive
When trying to operate the SodaStream, nothing happens.
Too Many Sealer Washers
If there are too many washers present the carbonation bottle will not be able to hold in place. Be sure to check the carbonation attachment area with tweezers. If you pull out one little black rubber ring and there is a second one present underneath, leave the second one and keep the extra one for future use.
Washer Needs to be Replaced
After time, the sealer washer can become less firm in the carbonation attachment area. This will cause the carbonation bottle to shift or not hold firm once attached. To change, take a pair of tweezers and pull the little black rubber ring out of the area where the carbonation bottle attaches to the SodaStream. Replace this with another washer and try to reattach the carbonation bottle. If the bottle holds firm the machine should respond once again.
Nothing Turns On
If you are trying to use your SodaStream, and nothing is happening (i.e. there are no lights on your three-level carbonation indicator), you may need to replace the battery or interface chip located within the carbonation button on the front of the machine. See our guide for instructions.
Leaking during carbonation
When the SodaStream is operating, there is leaking around the opening of the soda bottle.
Bottle is not in Correct Place
Make sure the bottle is completely upright. The carbonation nozzle has downward force and may spray if the bottle is inserted at an angle.
Bottle is not Fully Attached
The nozzle must be fully inserted in the clear plastic bottle to avoid leaking. When inserting the bottle go in at an angle, screw in the bottle, then gently push the lever.
Incorrect Starting Liquid
Always use water or unflavored carbonated water with your SodaStream. Using other liquids such as juice or a soda that has gone flat you risk damaging your SodaStream. Using other liquids may result in a fizzy mess.

Have recently swapped gas bottle. New bottle is not gassing water.
Full bottle of water stored in fridge. Inserted into sodastrem machine, button with 3 lights pressed, see some bubbles in water whilst button held down.

Try to leave the bottle at the machine for 2 minutes after carbornating then slowly push the lever to get the bottle out.
Jonas Krag -
Probably not useful to you any more since it’s 3-4 years ago, but it might be to someone else.
This very much sounds like you didn’t tighten the CO2 bottle enough. If it’s not tightened enough, pressing down on the Sodastream won’t make it connect with the CO2 canister.

Mine too!! All lights flashing and have to remove power cable and try to get them to turn off to reset… quite a bit of messing around. Why does this happen and how do I prevent it?? Not a good look for Sodastream to house guests !!

Installed cylinder and placed bottles as per simple directions - nothing happened, no carbonation. I don’t feel like messing around with a pressurized gas cylinder to see if there are extra seals as suggested; this thing is a waste of money in my view - it’s going back to Costco and I won’t be getting another one.

How do you screw in the bottle into the SodaStream source? There are no threads to screw the bottle in. Water is leaking out when I try to carbonate it with the bottle.
Alan Joseph J. Caceres - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Same here. I have to « push the bottle up » by placing my fingers under it and pressing up for the carbonation to occur. I can’t screw it, because there’s nothing to screw, but it’s like if it should be, as if it is too loose or something. Hoping for some guidance!
Marjolaine Frenette -
Has anyine figured this out? Having the same issue with the leaking
Armand Avelar -
You don’t screw the bottle in… there’s a chrome U-shaped tab a few inches long behind where the bottle goes… pull it out and the whole assembly will tilt towards you and open up. Put the bottle threads up into the fitting (it will go in now) then push the bottom of the bottle in to tilt everything vertical again. The fitting will grab the threads of the bottle.
Once you figure it out (like I did) you’ll slap your head because it’s so easy.
John Bridgman -
On the new model, I had a problem with the bottle not releasing after charging, even after I pulled it toward my as directed. This doesn’t screw in - you just put it in, then push the assembly back to charge it. While somewhat clunky, I solved the problem by letting the bottle sit for a few minutes after charging, then pushing the bottle UP and then it comes out.

The clear plastic part at thpulls out about 8cm, i was only pulling it out 4, now it does not leak :)

My soda stream works only if I drink the soda right away. The fizz dissipates very quickly.
If I put the soda stream bottle in the fridge after an hour it is flat. Yes I am starting with cold water and if I make and drink a glass right away its fine.

So far I am very disappointed in my Soda Stream.

We received this new unit as a Christmas present and it worked well for the first 2 months (2 cannisters). Now the third gas replacement and we are having problems with the amount of carbonation. Sometimes nothing, sometimes enough. Seems to work better with 500ml bottles than the 1 litre bottles. We have tried tightening the gas cylinder and it cannot be tightened further. It sounds like it is gassing the water but no carbonation results. For the price I would expect better reliability and if a solution cannot be found we will be returning it to Myer for a refund less than 3 months after it was purchased. Cylinder works fine in our very old (15 yr) manual Soda Stream.
Elizabeth DOLAN - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
UPDATE.
So another month on and new gas cylinders and we believe our problem may have been dud gas refills. We purchased 2 gas refills from Kmart and had issues with both of them. Last week we purchased 2 more refills this time from our local Shell Express store and although the first bottle was average fizzy, we have had perfect operation since.
The Shell Express store did say that they had a high turnover of bottles and I think Kmart had old stock. I will not buy again from Kmart or Big W.
Maybe something else to consider if you are having gassing issues.

Had a sofa stream for 3 yrs and still works fine and has never had a problem. Even fizzed some flat sparkling Shiraz leaving bottle in for 10 mins before release. No problem. Then bought a brand new one and water floods out of the top of the bottle if you fizz for more than a second. Then I noticed a new sticker label placed on the top of new one that wasn’t there on the old one telling you not to hold the handle down for more than 1 second. If you want fizzier water, then hold it down up to 6 times at 1 second each. What a joke and cop out! You can do this, but you will never see the second or third light illuminate. So why have the three lights? Sodastreams product has just got completely useless and to compensate they have stuck a label on the top telling you to fizz up to six seperate times or else “ long presses may cause the bottle to overflow!” The bottle never overflowed on the old one. My daughter took 3 back in a row to David Jones because water spewed out of the top when carbonating.

I was told that Sodastream couldn’t do anything as I didn’t have a receipt and it was a gift so get the purchaser to deal with it. Infact after tweeting them they were excellent and asked for photographic evidence of the manufacturers code inside the back cover. This showed the machine was within the 2 year period and they sent me a returns label then sent me a brand new model! They are very helpful so I don’t think it is a rarity that these machines malfunction!

Gas was leaking after installing a new canister and the first use of the new canister. Took it out, screwed back in, still leaked when I tried to charge a water bottle. Took canister out and checked the washer. It was out of line, probably when the old used canister was pulled. Took washer out, saw some wear but without a replacement I decided to just reverse the washer (in other words, the wear was now on the machine side), screwed the canister back in and good-to-go!

I’m confused by the washer where pinching out one of the washers and if there’s a second one there(?) leave it and save the other one just pulled out for future. What if there isn’t an extra washer there, then what put the one you just pulled out from-back? My canister is always needing tightening to every time I use the sodastream or else it’s low bubbly and looks like there’s nothing in the canister left, but there is, it’s just always untightening and i’ve had it for about a year and use it frequently. That’s other thing, where to get replacement washers and if the hose on the front of it’s loose where you put in the bottle or on the bottle, where’s that going to come from as there’s not much on their own (manufacturer’s) site to offer up the info.

If I press the start button and leave it for a fraction too long, the liquid bursts out when I try to remove the bottle. What is the more-or-less maximum time to allow to get the most ‘lasting’ bubbles, assuming the water is out of a fridge compartment first, before inserting the bottle?
Can I subsequently try to put a SECOND dose of gas in, immediately after removing the bottle? If so, for how long (after allowing the gas bubbles to settle briefly before any further attempt).?

I have an older model possibly, with glass bottles which go into a cylindrical bottle holder which pivots at the base. when i try to carbonate, i hear gas escaping from the bottle holder and water overflows the glass bottle into the bottle holder and doesn’t really carbonate the water.
Not sealing somewhere presumably but everything looks sound.

So I have a "kit" that is supposed to help refill my sodastream canister. I have bought a new (and full) 10lb CO2 refill tank. My sodastream canister isn't taking a charge no matter what I do. Froze the 1lb for 6 hour. No go. Tried freezer overnight. No go. Turned my 10lb upside down when trying to refill. No go. Checked washers to make sure they allowed the needed to be pressed down far enough. Seems fine. I'm at a loss for how to fill this dang thing.

I've had 3 FIZZI models so far -- they work flawlessly for about 60 days, then all of a sudden refuse to seal around the bottle top and won't carbonate … thankfully Costco has an awesome return/exchange policy ….. but I'm now wondering, is this happening because I'm carbonating a blend of lemonade, limeade & water? (and sometimes POG)
scott t - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I think you're supposed to carbonate the water before you add the flavoring to it… it might be the acid in the lemon & lime eroding the rubber seal. Maybe if you have to get a new one, try doing it that way and see if it makes a difference? Hope this helps.

My SodaStream Fizzi One Touch is making a horrible screaming sound like a classic horror movie whenever I carbonate beverages. I'm embarrassed to use it because it sounds like someone's getting badly hurt in my kitchen! I've tried tightening the carbonation tube and since it's in the front I know it isn't anything to do with the canister. The gas seems to be escaping just fine because it's still hissing….unless that awful howling means it's having trouble venting? I don't know, but does anyone else have any idea what I'm taking about or how to fix it? My neighbors and my sanity would greatly appreciate it, before someone calls 911 and I have to try and explain this…
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
My Soadastream has the glass carafe. This premium unit has an issue that I have not got a response to in past queries.
I push the carbonation button, it fills the bottle, but then only partially shuts off. A small but constant stream of CO2 is emitted. This issue can only be solved by A: removing the canister or B: repeatedly pressing the co2 button quickly and repeatedly to jiggle it closed.
Neither solution is acceptable, hence we have not had the use of the unit for months and do not intend to replace this unit.

How do you test the gas pressure in the C02 bottles. I have had a Sodastream for 8 years and replaced gas bottles heaps with no issues. Just recently I’ve had to replace thge C02 bottle and there does not appear to be enough gas. Tried two different locations and two different sources. Used Sodastream gas bottle and Sodagas bottle. Same result. Not enough gas comes out. Checked all washes etc and they are OK. Can you take the C02 bottle to be tested somewhere? as I suspect this is the issue… Bad suppliers. JeffW 14/2/2021

This is no good. A nice simple Genesis model bought for Christmas 2020 has got through two cylinders in two months (making not many bottles per cylinder). It has always leaked a little but now each time we use it an ever increasing amount of water runs out from somewhere in the top. I’m reluctant to unscrew all the little screws holding the top together. I’ve checked all three of the Leaking During Carbonation troubleshooting and both the obvious points of leakage are tight (cylinder and bottle). So we’ve given up using it. Graham

I use my Sodastream Source 3 times a day. Have been doing so for 8 months now.
Just today it started leaking while carbonating the water. I am inserting it the same way I have till now.
I insert it with the white gas tube going down the middle of the bottle and push it all the way up so the opening of the bottle is flush with the bottom of the sodastream. Then I push the bottle down so it’s standing up straight.
I’m positive I’m doing nothing wrong, but the machine started acting up today. Can I do anything about it?
It has leaked once or twice here and there in the past, like 1 in 100 bottles, but now it’s every time, more and at a lower pressure.

One thing I’ve realized is how is how important it is not to stress the excess pressure valve.
When you press down you can hear it ramp up the pressure. The valve kicks in when the pressure gets too high and you’ll hear air being released.
When that happens you should release the button and wait a second, then press down again.
If you don’t do this the valve will get worn down fast and start to leak, mine did. Whenever pressure got too high after that water flowed back into the machine and both water and co2 was expelled from the machine where the valve is.
I got the whole machine exchanged for free.

I have reviewed all of the trouble shooting suggestions to no avail. I am on my third CO2 cylinder. When new the new CO2 cylinder gave my 34 1 liter of carbonated water. The next two bottles of water were only mildly carbonated though there was good pressure and good flow, normal amount of gas into the 1 liter sodastream bottle, but after leleasing the bottle from the machine the water was flat. I tried this several times and got the same result. It seemed the CO2 gas was used up and what remained was compressed air. Installing a new CO2 cylinder fixed the problem, temporarily, but again after about 30 1-liter bottles with good carbonation again there was good pressure and flow but carbonation stopped. I use filtered water and store it in the sodastream bottles in the fridge. So the water is good, and cold. What do you suggest is the problem? Alberta , Canada
