Console Does not Turn On
The console does not turn on when connected to a power source.
Faulty Power Adapter
If your console does not turn on when plugged in, the power adapter may not be functioning. Replacing the power adapter should solve this problem.
Console Is Damaged by Water
If you believed that water got in your console, do not try to turn the console on. Unplug the power adapter as soon as possible and follow our guide to replace the motherboard here.
Console Does not Display Anything
The screen is blank when the console is turned on.
Tip: To tell if the device is on, a red LED light should illuminate on the front panel.
Faulty HDMI Cable
Test the console with another HDMI cable. Absence of connection can be due to a faulty HDMI cable.
Loose HDMI Cable
Ensure that the HDMI cable included with your console is fully plugged into the HDMI port on the back of the console. If the console still does not display anything, and you’re positive the device is turned on, you may have to open the device. Poor manufacturing tolerances in the development of the console led to the HDMI port being “squished” because of the case screws being tightened too tightly.
Controllers Does not Work
The controller does not turn on or does turn on but does not function.
Controller Batteries are Dead
If you turn on the controller but the LED in the front of it does not illuminate, try replacing the batteries. See here for our guide on how to replace the batteries here.
Path Between the Controller and the Console Is Blocked
If the LED does turn on but the controller still does not work, ensure that the LED on the front of the controller is not blocked and that nothing is blocking the direct path from your console to your controller.
Controller Is Damaged by Water
If you believed that water got in your controller, do not try to turn the controller on. Take out the batteries as soon as possible and follow our guide to replace the board inside the controller.
Cartridge Game Is not Shown on the Menu
Your cartridge game is not shown on the menu when the cartridge is inserted.
Cartridge Is not Inserted Properly
Ensure that you put your cartridge in while the console is off and that you push the cartridge all the way in. If the console still does not read the cartridge, pull the cartridge out and repeat the steps above a few times.
Cartridge Is not Compatible
Make sure that the cartridge is a SEGA Genesis cartridge by looking at the sticker on the cartridge. If it is a Genesis cartridge but the game is not shown on the menu, it might not be compatible with the Flashback system. Even though not all original Genesis cartridges are compatible with the new system, the manufacturer has not released a full list of compatible games. If you have other cartridges, try them with the console.
Games Do not Run Smoothly
There are frame drops, freezes, and delays between when you press buttons and when corresponding actions are displayed.
Game Is not Optimized for the Console
Try playing a few different games to see if the issue continues. If you're noticing that it only happens with one particular game, the game can be inherently not optimized for the console. There is not anything you can do about this.
Loose or Faulty HDMI Cable
Follow the instructions here to make sure that your HDMI cable is functioning and is plugged in properly.
Console Is Experiencing Performance Issues
Try to "power cycle" the system by turning it off and on again before resuming play. If the console has been on for several hours, you might want to turn it off and let it cool down for an hour.
As the last resort, you can follow our motherboard replacement guide here to see how to replace your motherboard if these issues still persist.
Poor or No Audio
The audio is not clear or is distorted.
Outdated Firmware
Early copies of the SEGA Genesis Flashback were shipped with buggy firmware that did not work correctly. It caused audio distortion, display issues, and generally glitchy graphics during gameplay. If all of our solutions posted above have not worked for you, then your console is most likely running old firmware. Luckily, AtGames, the manufacturer of the SEGA Genesis Flashback, is offering to update the firmware for you if you get in contact with them.
Tip: AtGames’ website features a full FAQ related to troubleshooting their devices and ensuring that you get the best experience possible. However, to contact them for getting your system firmware updated, we would recommend emailing them at their support email: info@atgames.net

Hello have you find solution for fix
rudnik -
I know that you posted this in 2019 but I thought I would respond. You need a genuine mega drive/genesis cartridge and a wired controller as you cannot follow the on screen instructions using the wireless controller. Once you have the cartridge and wired controller, you will be able to press the required keys to get rid off that red screen.

I was excited to try this console out when I first got it. pulled it out of the box, plugged everything in and then couldn’t get either of the controllers to work. Anyone know what the problem might be? The console boots up just could never get the wireless controllers it came with to connect, so will have to wait to get wired controllers to actually play anything.

Hey guys - I just got codemasters Fantastic Dizzy for my mega drive flashback but when I switch on it does not detect the cartridge. Does anyone know if this is a faulty cartridge or is it not compatible???

Is it possible to upgrade the MegaDrive Flashback HD 2017 with a later firmware, (I know that there is a USB type-B port inside the console)? If plugging a usb memory stick into the port and name the file sega_update.img on the stick will it work? If not is there a mother way to upgrade it?

Thank you for taking the time to contact customer support. This is Newton from AtGames Sales and Marketing. Unfortunately, only the versions of the Sega Mega Drive Flashback with an SD card slot can be updated. The emulation software in the SD card version differs, which renders the firmware incompatible. No official firmware is available for the version of the Sega Mega Drive without an SD card slot, as well.

Hello!
I own a 2017 model as well and I received a firmware update (.img file) from atGames supported dated „…2017…“ in the filename. But sadly no instructions on how to flash. Since the graphics on some games are distorted and the sound sometimes too it would be great to have a solution here!
Device is connected to a PC and I habe access to the NAND flash of 2,8 GB. Any instructions?
Thanks

My controllers won’t pair to the console. The blue lights are on, the path is clear, I’ve turned it off and on.
Anyone know how to pair these controllers? They should pair on there own, but I’m sure there is a way to do it that was missed at the manufacture.

Hi,
my Genesis mini console work fine with the latest v2.01 firmware. When it it hooked hooked up to a LG 1080p TV using HDMI. But my problem occurs when I plug my Genesis mini console into a Lenovo L2250P WIDE 45.0Khz/ 60Hz monitor, using HDMI. The consoles AT Games title, menus and background all appear OK. But you try to load and play any of the roms, I just keep seeing a black square where the game should be running. Even after try to reboot things. However I plug my mini back into a TV again, then it works perfectly again.
I am using the same power and HDMI lead, so what is going wrong?
