The disc is not supported by the Blu-ray player.
Hardware Damage
If there is difficulty in playing the disc there may be the following incorrect settings that need to be checked.
- Verify whether the disc is supported by the player. For information regarding disc compatibility with your unit, refer to the operating instructions.
- Verify the Disc types and contents which the product can play.
- Both products and discs are coded and varied by region. These regional codes must match for a disc to play. If codes do not match, the disc will not play.

No Sound
The Blu-ray device is not producing any detectable audio.
Incorrect Device Wiring
If your HDMI cords are incorrectly placed in the wrong HDMI ports, resulting in a picture playing without audio or, in other cases, the other way around. If that solution doesn’t work, factory reset your device and only reset your TV, then plugin the device again.

Internal Hardware Defect
It is possible that the device is affected by a shock/surge, or a prolonged over/under voltage. A factory reset will work as both a potential fix and diagnostic evaluation. First unplug the power cord from the outlet, wait at least an hour, press the power button, and hold power while plugging cord directly into the wall. This can solve the issue.
Disc Tray Not Opening
The Blu-ray Disc tray/player will not open.
Hardware Malfunction
It is a regular defect in any Blu-ray device of the disc tray malfunction. If there is a problem with opening the disc tray, follow the power reset method:
- Make sure the cables of the device are connected properly.
- We need to hold the power button so the Blu-ray player turns off.
- After the Blu-ray Disc player turns off, press the POWER button again to turn it back on.
- Press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the front of the Blu-ray Disc player to open the disc tray.
With this process we are able to insert the disc in the disc tray and the device can work properly.

I've updated to the most recent firmware 1501, it's Samsung's 2 year old plus most recent update. My UBD-K8500 still will not play even 2022 4k blueray disc's. I've read a lot of complaints about this issue. Other than throwing away a $600 plus player, any suggestions? Samsung doesn't seem to respond to any of these threads.
