When you plug in your SGIN X15S but the battery doesn't charge, follow these steps to solve the problem.
Old or Faulty Battery
Over time, lithium batteries degrade and lose their ability to hold a charge. Frequent charging cycles and extreme temperatures can accelerate this process and cause the battery to lose its ability to hold a charge. If your laptop's battery rapidly discharges or won't power on when it is not plugged in, it is likely that your battery is too old and can't provide sufficient voltage to run your laptop.
- If your battery is too old, it must be replaced.
Faulty Charger
As a charger cable is used it can become less reliable as user actions such as leaving at an angle while plugged in can cause the cable to short and or cut the connectivity of the wires. Furthermore, the components within the cable can wear down with use and or excessive heat for prolonged periods of time. These situations can cause the battery to not be able to receive power.
- While your laptop is plugged in, look for the indicator light next to the charging port. If the light is on, the laptop is receiving power and the charger is not faulty.
- If the indicator light is not illuminated, use a different charger to determine if the problem lies with the laptop or the charger. Alternatively, the charger you are testing may be plugged in to a different laptop or tested with a multimeter.
- If the charger is faulty, then the charger components will need to be fixed or a new compatible charger will need to be purchased.
Running Excessive Programs
Running too many programs can use a lot of computing power and may cause your battery to drain quickly.
Follow these steps to evaluate the programs that are running:
- Press ctrl + alt + del and click on "Task Manager."
- On the processes tab, review how much memory and processing power is being used.
- If either of those aspects are high, close the programs that are using a lot of memory or computing power to reduce your power consumption.
Dirt or Debris in the Charging Port
Dirt or debris could become lodged in the charging port and prevent the charger from connecting with the laptop.
- Visually inspect the charging port will determine if the port is obstructed. If the charging port does have dirt or debris then it will need to be cleaned to return to working condition.
- Use compressed air to remove lose dust and debris.
- carefully use a needle to loosen stubborn debris and remove it with compressed air.
Charging Port Has Broken Pin
The skinny pin found within the charging port can be fragile and may break if a charger is inserted or removed improperly or if a foreign object is inserted into the port. Without this pin, a proper circuit cannot be made and no electricity will flow into the battery and the port must be replaced.
- Visually inspect the charging port to determine if the pin is damaged.
