This troubleshooting page will help you diagnose problems with the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery
Motion Sensors Are Failing
Motion and lights control is not activated.
Motion Settings are Turned Off
Tap on the Motion Setting tile for access to the motion control and lights controls.
Motion Zone Controls are not adjusted
Select motion zones on the app and customize the areas to trigger the camera to turn on when motion is detected. Simply tap on the diagram to turn on the motion zone on or off.
Video Delays Are Extensive
The ring spotlight cam is offline or the location is not set-up properly.
Wi-Fi Signals are not extending
Bring the Spotlight Cam near a router and open the Ring app. Press the Live View button on the app or trigger a motion event to view live video. If the video quality of the camera is good near your router, you need to extend your Wi-Fi signal.
Improper Height Installation
It’s important when selecting a location. Make sure to place the Ring Spotlight at an optimal height of nine feet. This will put the motion sensor in a perfect position to detect human-size objects up to 30 feet.
Weak Wireless Connection
The ring spotlight is offline.
Internet Router Needs Resetting
Check if there is an internet connection problem, by opening the “Ring App” and select your Ring device and then select “Ring Health”, if your Ring device is offline it will say “Offline” under the “Network header”. There can be a power surge, a wire in your router setup temporarily comes loose, or you temporarily lose power which will affect your internet router. The next step would be to check if all of your wires are plugged in and the front of the routers lights are all green. Check if another device is having trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi connection. Try unplugging your router for 30 seconds then connecting it again. Remove the internal battery of the device then insert it again and check if the device has a Wi-Fi connection.
Charge Removable Battery
If Wi-Fi connection is not the case the removable battery needs to be charged.
Ring Spotlight Cam is Not Turning On
The batteries are not powering the cam device.
Recharge the Battery
Take the battery and plug it into a power source so the battery can charge for a couple of hours before installation. When the battery is fully charged the small light on top will turn green and will be ready for installation.
Properly Insert the Battery
Insert the the battery into your ring spotlight cam until you can hear it click into place.
LED Lights Do Not Turn On
LED light control.
Light Brightness is Not Properly Set
Tap on the Light Settings tile for access to the motion zone Light Brightness control. Use this control to adjust the brightness of your spotlights when they activate.
Light Settings are Turned Off
The lights on the Spotlight Cam will only turn on when it is dark outside and their is motion. If the lights aren't turning on at night then you can adjust the motion sensitivity. If you do not want your lights to turn on at night you can also, manually control your spotlight through the lights control.

The new “Amazon” Ring Battery Cam is a big disappointment. Not the quality of the former Owner/manufacturer. I wondered what might happen when Ring sold out…if it would maintain the same quality and reputation. Guess not.

I have charged my two batteries. Green lights are on them put them in camera and try to power on but nothing happens. Is my camera broke? It used to work but now doesn’t.

I charged my battery twice this year and it worked perfectly afterwards. But this time, when the battery is fully charged and after putting it back, the light under the cam flashes white and blue, and my phone says the battery is off line because it’s not charged! Does someone has the answer to this problem?
Isa Ney - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
We need an IFixIt tear down for this issue. For those of you with a totally dead unit and out of warranty it needs troubleshooting and it needs a complete tear down to diagnose the issue since Ring /Amazon offers no viable solutions. Any faux engineers out there willing to sacrifice a unit?

My battery has 3.5v like it should but my camera still don’t come on. This happened out of no where and it was placed in a dry area.

Ring floodlight fully charged by solar panel. Shows black and white image during day and only shows color images when the lights are turned on using the app. Unfortunately, the cameras LED lights do not illuminate when turned on. At night the camera does the same thing, but its harder to tell since the lights do not come on in the dark either.
Steven H - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Spotlight cam stopped charging with solar panel. Checked with volt meter. Solar panel has strong output. Battery contact pins inside camera have no voltage. This indicates to me an internal problem with the cameras charging circuit or control. Anyone find a solution?
Christopher Treusch - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Same issue with the batteries.. 1 of 2 units that I bought have this problem. Red light with fully charged battery, can’t reset and shows 3% in app.
Daniel Nilsson - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Obviously Ring has a problem that they’re not acknowledging. Their batteries are sold out; perhaps they have an enormous batch of bad batteries and everyone is buying replacements? It is time to start posting warnings for people not to buy this product: it’s a great product but if the batteries don’t work then it’s junk. I have the same problem: charge batteries for 5 hours; they even get hot, but red light on the battery stays on. Then put it in the camera and the red light is on. Call Ring and they act as though this has never happened before. Come on you guys, are you reading this??
mgoresky - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I talked with support on the phone. They basically did the same test that everybody else already did.. charge battery, hold button for 20sec.. nothing worked and after that they sent a replacement camera. Got it in Sweden after 2 weeks and have to send back the broken one within 30 days after replacement arrived. I suggest everyone with this issue to call support, and with a little luck you might just get a new one.
Daniel Nilsson -
I had the same issue this summer, after like 6 months use. I charged the battery, turned green, put it back in cam, turned red. I called RING and we checked everything before they said they were going to send me a new one. Instead of a new battery, I received the whole package, cam/battery/plugs. I reset the whole system and now it’s working. I sent back the old cam, prepaid by UPS. So service was Ok for me and it’s a good product, but they really have to solve this battery problem!! I hope the new one will work more than 6 months….
Isa Ney - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
When I called RING, the acted normally, so maybe call them back and get a new person on the lign? My problem was solved in like 10 mn chack-up over the phone and then they took my address and sent me a new one. I received it less very quick and I’m in Canada, it has to cross the boarder. So maybe just try again calling them….
Isa Ney - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
And no… no resolution. Batteries have to be changed.
Isa Ney - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Ok, so I had the exact same problem with on of my cams, the batteries in both cameras lost charge while we were moving house and only one of the cameras turned back on when re-charged batteries were inserted, the other did not, even when brand new batteries were purchased, charged and inserted. Its not a battery issue because I’ve tested the batteries in the camera that’s working and they’re fine. So I called Ring support. The first chap asked me to remove the batteries while his advanced suppport team sent some instructions over the ether to the camera, and he told me that after 10 minutes, to re-insert the batteries and all would work fine. Not so. The second call got me a very different respone. It appears that some cameras have a defect whereby they will not re-start if the battery goes dead in them. If that is detected before the one year warranty expires, then Ring will replace the camera. If it is detected after the one year warranty expires, tough luck. - comment continues next …..
Martin Edmonds - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
So, in my case, I had the cam connected to a solar panel, and I live in Dubai so there’s no problem with lack of sunlight, and the battery never went dead in the cam. Until I moved house and put it in a shed for a few weeks. So the fault wasn’t detected in time before the warranty ran out because I spent more money than I should have on Ring products (solar panels). So I have to buy a new cam. the advice would appear to be that you should allow the battery in the new cam to go dead, see if the cam has the known common defect, and get a replacement under warranty from Ring if so. There you go folks, customer service Ring-style.
What other cameras are out there I wonder ? ……..
Martin Edmonds - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I’m on my second spotlight cam having same issue. I will never buy another ring again their customer service is horrible.
umrebel3092 - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I think I know what could solve our problem… BEFORE it happens.
Maybe the battery won’t work if it GOES DEAD INSIDE CAM.
With my 1st battery , I charged it (before it went dead, phone said it was low), put it back, and it went fine. 2nd time: I charges it (was dead in the cam this time), the problem above occured.
I was within the warranty deadline. So RING sent new camera and new battery. It worked right away.
Let’s try this:
- put 2 batteries, so when 1 goes dead, the other one takes over. Battery is around 14$, it’s worth trying.
- OR try to recharge the battery BEFORE it goes dead.
I’m not sure about it, but it could be the reason.
You’re right about customer service: they know this problem. Like any car manufacturer, they should call back all the products and change it.
Now for ecology and “think=about=the =planet” sake, if we can make it work with such a simple solution, maybe it’s worth not throwing away all these cameras.
If somoene tries it and it’s still NOT working, please tell us?
Isa Ney - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Hi Isa, yes, as a preventative measure that will work, but it doesn't do anything for those of us who spent approx 200 euros on a defective camera. I bought a new one and have been letting the battery discharge so that I can identify if this cam has the same defect before the warranty expires. Great battery by the way, after a month finally down to 3% charge today.
Martin Edmonds - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

Spotlight Camera says Battery door is open when it is not it has been doing this since NEW, I am very disappointed in this product and would not recommend it. Could it be poor design or a Firmware issue. POOR

Set up light no longer comes on and cannot be connected to ring chime pro or my Orbi WIFI system....and yes I am using charged batteries.
Simply stopped working with batteries that were charged overnight and sometimes charged for days. The unit was under a soffit and is in pristine condition. I have tried all troubleshooting options...even ones that were not really related to this problem...nothing. VERY frustrated.
Dennis Thorne - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I also had this problem with battery not showing in app even though it was fully charged. We have 2 batteries in each camera. It also had the batteries flipped-if you had a fully charged battery only in the left the green would show in the right battery display & vice versa. Tried every measure to test, try new batteries, etc. Out of warranty. Contacted Ring Support & after going through all of these same troubleshooting actions with their support, they agreed there was a malfunction (but couldn't tell me where/why except it was cold temp related but my issue started when temps were in 50's so that excuse didn't work). I got a 35% discount for a new camera so while I'm not totally satisfied I truly thought I'd be told not their problem. I explained that I read several discussion group sites wherein this was not an uncommon issue & I asked Ring provide a response on their site to acknowledge this problem. Probably won't happen. Now happening in a warrantied camera. Repeat process but outcome easier I hope.
Lisa Striplin - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Update: new camera installed but the issue remained. Called support again & after more of the same steps above a 2nd tier support person joined call. She had us do the software update for the new camera, then we removed battery pack & she restarted the cam from her end. We reinstalled battery pack & now both batteries show green. No explanation as to why that worked & I can't explain what she did on her side but she was very nice & supportive. Good luck with your cam issues-don't give up. Keep calling til you get next level support.
