Toothbrush Does not Vibrate
The toothbrush does not vibrate when the buttons are pressed. The lights may not turn on, or the device may be working well without vibration.
Faulty Battery
If your device is not charging or will not power on.
Ensure the power adapter is plugged firmly into the wall and the glass wireless charging cup. Place the bottom of the toothbrush into the glass and a green light should appear in the battery icon in the bottom of the handle.
If the battery light is not on after using the charging cup, locate your wireless charging travel case. Plug in the case to the wall and let it charge for 30 minutes. After this time has passed, place your toothbrush into the charging case. If the light is still not on, then consider replacing the charging case.
If the light is not on after testing the charging cup and case, consider replacing the battery in your toothbrush.
Water Damage
If there is water leaking from the bottom of the device or the cover is cracked.
Water damage occurs when backwash builds up in the charging cup. Ensure you keep your charging cup clean and liquid-free. Clean your toothbrush with warm water (light soap is fine to use) and dry with a towel.
If problem persists, consider removing the plastic case and drying the components.
Battery Will not Charge
The device will not charge when using the charging cup or case.
Charging Utensils
Ensure the power adapter is plugged firmly into the wall and the glass wireless charging cup. Place the bottom of the toothbrush into the glass and a green light should appear in the battery icon in the bottom of the handle.
If the battery light is not on after using the charging cup, locate your wireless charging travel case. Plug in the case to the wall and let it charge for 30 minutes. After this time has passed, place your toothbrush into the charging case. If the light is still not on, then consider replacing the battery in your toothbrush.
Lights on Handle Will not Turn on
The device is powering on, and working properly, but the LEDs are not lighting up.
Faulty LEDs
Connect toothbrush to a charging port. If all lights on the toothbrush do not turn on, then consider replacing the battery. If one or more light works, contact Sonicare about repairing the devicehere
Button Press is not Registering
The device is charging properly, but the button press does not register or registers sometimes.
Button is Stuck in Place
If the button cannot be pressed, there may be something below the button holding it down. To fix this, remove the brush from the toothbrush. Then, remove the bottom of the casing with a flat head screwdriver. If holding the toothbrush, lights facing up, depress two prongs in either side inside of the toothbrush. Place the metal head on a flat surface and gently press downward. Remove the item holding the button and reassemble the device.
Toothbrush vibration timing is wrong
If your toothbrush vibrates in roughly 1-second pulses, along with the brush head replacement light flashing (for applicable models), you may be able to fix it by performing a factory reset. To perform a reset:
- Put the handle on to the charger.
- Press the power button 10 times while pressing and holding the mode button.
- Release both buttons. The factory reset mode is now enabled.
- Press the power button 6 times while pressing and holding the mode button.
- After releasing both buttons again, you will hear 3 beeps and the lights on the handle will blink, indicating a successful reset.

The on-off button became harder and harder to press. So I looked at it with a powerful hand-lens and immediately saw the problem. Lime scale buildup, with visible crystals forming in the narrow space between the body and the button. A descaling chemical solved the problem immediately! Some fizzing, and a lot of white solution being flushed out as I pressed the button repeatedly while irrigating the button with the descaling chemical.
Operation completely back to normal.

Hi, I have the same problem the start button is hard to press. Can you tell me how you clean yours? reubenc@me.com
Thank you

Thanks so much for the great tip! I had hesitantly changed from Oral B to Philips when my daughter raved about her Smart Brush and then a year later, the brush just stopped vibrating. Your scaling suggestion around the On/Off button worked like a charm!

Can you tell me what cleaning solution you used?

I have trouble with my toothbrush going off and vibrating while not being used. Scared us one night. Turned off, but then will do it again. Washed to make sure nothing was pressing the button, still goes off. So had to put outside in plastic bag ready for trash. When I walked outside you could hear it running and buzzzing like some giant bug in the bag. Decided to trash it. Now it is at least 10 or more years old. It has the sterilized place and charger all together. I saved and was wondering if I get new tooth brush would it fit on that charger? Please help.
gaildhardwick - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Yeah, it will work. My Diamond Clean did the same and I was hoping some troubleshooting would solve the problem. So disappointed with Philips. I’m considering going to Oral B. I love Philips products but this is my second replacement on the Diamond Clean. Their 20% compensation is not enough to go for another Diamond Clean. Each family member has one and when theirs go out they will all have a different brand electronic toothbrush.
Felicia Oliver -
I have had the same issue but the brush is hardly 2 years old. Really disappointed with Phillips. My previous toothbrush was Oral B - it lost 1/10 of the price and lasted 10 years.

I had water in my case from a failed top seal. While disassembled from the case and fully dried out from water damage should the LED on the device immediately show “charging” when placed in the charging glass or does it have to be reassembled in the case in order to charge? I am trying to determine if the unit is to be scrapped or repairable.
mike - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
The same issue is happening to me right now.
Would be nice to know if this was ever solved. . .

This is a new toothbrush and that has been charging out for 48 hours in the glass. The lights are still flashing and toothbrush car button still does not work
challengerstan - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
The power button is not working which means the toothbrush is not working. What can you do about this? This is a brand new toothbrush oh, it says 24 hours to charge this has doubled it
challengerstan - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
My toothbrush is charged but when I press the on button, which works fine, I hear a click and the “clean” LED lights up, but the brush does not vibrate.
Peter Robson - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Hi, I have the same issue.
Have you managed to fix it?
Krzysztof Lis -
did you fix this? mine is doing the same
Gina -
I had the same problem.
This is the third broken Diamond clean. Like some other users, I love the way the toothbrush cleans, but only one handle has been replaced by Philips, they only offer a 20% discount on a replacement. Last time, I found cheaper in Bed Bath and Beyond. This time, unless someone has found a way to fix it, I think I must look elsewhere!

Apparantly the glass charger is not working. When I put the toothbrush in the travel case it charges - but will not charge when in the glass. Worked fine in the past.

Rebecca - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Terrible toothbrush it seems. Second one in a year.
First one button got stuck, with strange little tick noise. Could not get it to work again. Bought in a big retail store.
Second one same issue and the metal pin where the brush clicks onto just fell off. Bought on Philips-Amazon.
Never ever again Philips. Back to Braun!

trying to find out if tooth brush has to stand up in glass to charge cannot make it stand up
leliah97@yahoo.ca - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
It doesn’t have to stand up.
You should see the little green light slowly blinking.

Just spent an hour trying to get the cream coloured gunk out from under the buttons as the buttons could no longer be pressed. I’ve only had this for about 9 months. This should not be happening. I keep it very clean and dry. This is a terrible flaw with the philips sonicare toothbrush. I am not happy about this. There must be a better way to clean this stuff out from under the buttons.
dgagnefoss - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Had same issue as others - toothbrush kept ‘going off’ in the middle of the night. I thought I’d overcharged it but apparently you cannot overcharge. One night we had to hide it in a jacket pocket. Anyway, eventually it stopped working altogether even though it was fully charged. No visible gunk, button does press but nothing. Had it literally 2 years and 1 month (guess luckier than some whose failed within a year). Now a dilemma, have a handful of spare toothbrush heads so do I go for another or go for Oral B, which has comparable ratings.

Have a creeping crud black biosomething growing between the rubber button cover and the perimeter plastic boundary ridge of the body. How to clean out, disinfect? A small needle drawn around the rubber oval button cover perimeter and plastic body digs out black crud bio particles
apolloeme - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
The metal stick that the toothbrush head goes on is very loose and makes a lot of noise. I’m afraid it’s gonna come off and hurt me.
cissy - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I had the same stuck button problem others mentioned. Toothpaste had built up under the button over time and then hardened preventing the button from being depressed. Held it under hot water running from a faucet for a while and then began lightly pressing and releasing the button. The toothpaste dissolved and flushed completely out after many minutes. That was at least two years ago and the problem has not replicated since.

Sonicare toothbrushes were once a well-built device. No more. Quality is horrible. If I am lucky, it will last about one year or less before failing. Philips is equally horrible. They do not stand behind their products. Quality control is nonexistent. So very disappointed in Philips. Used to be a great company, but no more. All they care about is making money. To !&&* with customer satisfaction or service. I am done with Philips and with Sonicare. Pure junk. Don’t waste your money.
Keenan Casady - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
It seems I have been buying one brush each year. The quality is horrible and most of the time the vibration becomes really weak after a year. No issues with charging them, they just don’t work! I am looking for a good reliable alternative.
Hemal Surti - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Try cleaning around the button with a Waterpik. Works great.
Gener - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I replaced the switch and solved the issue. You need to have a hot air soldering station to complete the repair. Replacement switches can be purchased on Amazon or Ebay, not a perfect fit but can be made to work. This is the second Sonicare I've repaired.
Robert Brown - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I have had this two years. All of a sudden the toothbrush head will not move. It is charged and all other functions are working properly except for the toothbrush head. For a 300.00 toothbrush I would expect better quality
Michele Clark - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Got my diamond clean in June 2022 and its not charging now. The device does not light up in tue charging stand. The charger is in pristine condition and so is the toothbrush. Really disappointed, as i spent a lot of money and frankly expect it to last a few years at least.

My Philips sonicare diamondclean smart
9750.... All of a sudden started this loud vibrating sound. I've already checked the head of the toothbrush changed it out , did the restart that was suggested...nothing helps. This was not a cheap toothbrush ... I've had the same issue with my prior sonicare electric toothbrush. Phillips did replace it but this shouldn't be happening every time I've purchased one of their products. Please help to resolve this issue. Thanks.

Third Sonicare brush for me - all broken after a year or so. Its always the on-off button that keeps breaking. Maybe this time I will try to repair it myself… At least here in Europe Amazon gives warranty and all money back, prices have gone up tho…

My old Sonicare worked great for 4 years, and was still going strong but I decided to upgrade. That was a mistake, the new model only lasted 6 months. I think they are trying to put to much technology into a toothbrush. I don't think it needs a bluetooth toothbrush head monitor. This seems to be a case of planned obsolescence, they don't want the toothbrushes to last forever anymore, and they seem OK with a poor quality product now.
