Battery Not Charging or Draining Too Fast
Your Motorola Moto G6’s battery drains too fast or will not charge properly.
Battery Needs to be Recalibrated
If you find that the battery for your Motorola Moto G6 smartphone is draining too quickly or is not charging when plugged in, it is likely that your battery needs to be recalibrated. Although this process is simple, it will take a little bit of time to do properly.
Begin by pressing and holding the power button for 7-10 seconds. This will automatically restart your device. Then, charge your device fully using the device’s original charger. Because this step will take some time, it is recommended you leave it plugged in overnight.
Battery is Defective
If the above process does not successfully fix your battery issues, it is likely you will need to replace your battery. Please refer to our Motorola Moto G6 Battery Replacement Guide.
Sound Issues
The sound on your Motorola Moto G6 is not playing normally
Volume Needs to be Reset to Factory Standards
If the phone’s general sound quality is poor or the volume is consistently too low or too high, open the phone’s system settings menu in the settings app and then click “About Phone.” You will want to access the Developer Options. To do so, click the “Build Number” option 7 times and toggle the “disable absolute volume” option to “On.”
This will reset sound to factory standards and disconnect the phone from any Bluetooth devices that might be causing lack of control over volume.
Video Streaming App is Preventing Sound from Playing
If specific streaming apps are not playing any sound, resetting the app should fix this issue. To reset an app to factory settings, open the phone’s settings app —> Apps —> ALL —> select the problematic application —> clear cache. This should restore the app to its original settings and resolve any sound issue. Be prepared to re-enter log in information for the app and reset any preferred settings that you had before.
Speaker is Defective
If your Moto G6 is producing no sound whatsoever, first try cleaning the speakers. This can be done by cleaning the surface of the speakers with a sanitary wipe and spraying it with compressed air.
If the issue continues, your phone speaker may be broken. This will require a speaker replacement. Refer to our Motorola Moto G6 Speaker Replacement Guide.
Lags and Freezes
Your Motorola Moto G6 is experiencing lags or freezes during use.
Apps Cache is too full
If lagging or freezing happens only on a specific app or apps, try to clear cache from the app/apps. You can do this through Settings —> Apps —> ALL —> Selecting the app —> Storage —> Clear Cache.
Apps are Operating Tasks in the Background
The device may be lagging or freezing due to apps running in the background. In order to fix this, you could try the following:
- Disable apps from doing tasks in the background (ex. Tracking your location while not on the app)
- Resetting app preferences in Setting —> Apps
The Device is Not Updated
If the lags and freezes persist, try updating your device through the settings menu. If the device is already updated, you can also try resetting your phone to default factory settings in the settings menu.
Malfunctioning Fingerprint Sensor
The fingerprint sensor on your Motorola Moto G6 is operating slowly or not working.
Fingerprint Sensor Needs to be Reset
If your device’s fingerprint sensor is operating slowly when unlocking your device or you receive a message saying, “Fingerprint hardware is not available”, here are some simple solutions you can try to fix the issue:
- Re-configure the fingerprint.
- Activate the device’s Safe Mode and uninstall any recently downloaded applications.
- Reset your device to factory settings.
Fingerprint Sensor is Obstructed
If the device’s fingerprint sensor is not working, physical obstructions may be causing malfunctions. Below are some solutions to fix this issue:
- Remove any screen protectors or phone cases that cover the fingerprint sensor.
- Use a wet cloth to wipe down and remove any dust and debris on your fingerprint sensor.
Malfunctioning LCD Display
The LCD Display on your Motorola Moto G6 is malfunctioning. This includes a sensitive LCD display touch screen or screen flickering.
A Third-Party App is Causing Malfunctions
Boot the device into Safe Mode to determine if the issue is due to a third-party app. To do this:
- Navigate to the “Home” screen, then press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the “Power Off” menu appears.
- After releasing the power button, tap and hold the “Power Off” option.
- A “Reboot to safe mode” message should then appear. Click “OK” to confirm. The device will then power off and restart into safe mode.
- Unlock your device and enter screen lock code to proceed into safe mode.
If the issue on the device has disappeared, then a third-party app was likely the cause. To resolve this, you should remove any untrusted or recently downloaded apps that could be causing issues to your device. While in Safe Mode, you can delete apps by going to “Settings” —> Apps —> All Apps. Select suspected apps that you wish to delete. Select “Uninstall” and tap “OK” to confirm.
The Cache Partition Needs to be Cleared
If the problem persists, or if Safe Mode did not resolve the issue, then you should clear the cache partition through Recovery Mode. To do this:
- Power off the device
- Hold down the Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously until the device turns on
- Press and hold the Volume Down button until the flag next to the Power button reads “Recovery Mode”
- Press and hold the Power button to restart device into Recovery Mode. An Android logo will then show up on the screen.
- While holding down the Power button, press and release the Volume Up button.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight Wipe cache partition then press the Power button to confirm selection
- After the cache partition has cleared, select “Reboot system now” and press the Power button to confirm selection.
If neither options resolve the issue, then the device may require a master reset or factory reset. Go to Settings —> Backup & Reset. Enable the option “Back Up My Data” if necessary. Then go Tap “Factory Data Reset” and tap “Reset Phone” to confirm.
Physical Damages are Causing Malfunctions
A physically damaged screen can cause further issues within the LCD Display. If the LCD Display is physically damaged, then a replacement screen will be required. Refer to the Motorola Moto G6 LCD Display Replacement Guide.

My Moto g6 will not allow both hearing aids to be connected most of the time (only one). My local audiologist, working with the Widex expert, has determined that the problem is the phone, not the hearing aids, Widex software, or service provider (StraightTalk/Verizon), although connecting with Verison is not consistent. Please advise as to what to do to resolve this issue.

Somewhat like Narayan above, when my phone rings, I hear the ring. But the phone pad does not appear where I would normally press a button to answer the phone. Nor does that top of screen helper that lets you answer, dismiss etc a call. What I get is a black screen. This just started happening. Why? How to fix?

I have the same problem. maybe it's time to change the phone (planned obsolence!? My phone is 3 years old+-) Guess which one I am not going to buy! For me the basic purpose of a mobile phone is call and receive calls. All the rest of the mobile "super powers" are great but if I cannot answer a basic phone call...

My Moto G6 will not let me answer my phone. When I receive a call it stays on the home screen with no option to answer the incoming call. I've tried tapping the phone icon to see if I can connect to the caller but that doesn't work either!

My motoG6 is coming apart at the seams. Three years old and rarely used. Called customer service and the cost to repair quoted is more than the original price(!?). Even though no longer under warranty, seems a manufacturing problem and phone should be replaced. Currently being held together with little clamps which make it impossible to use keyboard.
