If you press the keyboard or move the trackpad and your Lenovo Thinkpad P50 does not seem to register the actions, then you should follow these steps to make it responsive again.
Faulty Keyboard
Incorrect language or keyboard layout; Several languages and regional keyboard layouts are supported by Windows. Check these settings first if the characters you expect from your keys are not being output.
- Look for a language switcher, also known as a language bar, in the lower left corner close to the system tray. You can choose from installed languages or regional keyboards when you open it.
- Verify the keyboard settings and region for the language that is currently selected. Choose the appropriate option if the settings don't match your expectations.
- By default, switching between input languages is accomplished by pressing Left Alt + Shift. If the language bar is not enabled, it will not function. However, it could be the reason you're typing in Russian while trying to make a grocery list.
- Check the Windows language settings and adjust them appropriately if the language bar is not visible but this appears to be your problem. They are located under Time & Language in the Settings menu.
Ease of Access Settings Enabled; Microsoft developed features to increase accessibility for individuals who have trouble typing in addition to support multiple languages. You might believe your keyboard isn't responding if you unintentionally enable some of these settings.
- Try typing by holding down each key instead of typing quickly as usual. A simple test is to press and hold the Caps Lock key for a few seconds to see if the indicator light turns on.
- If you're able to type using long key presses, you'll need to turn off Filter Keys (a feature designed to help users who may unintentionally press extra keys while typing).
- Make sure to review your settings in the Ease of Access section of the Settings app or Control Panel. Navigate to the Keyboard section and confirm that everything is configured properly.

Check that the laptop has the latest driver software.
- Download and install the latest Synaptics Thinkpad UltraNav Driver from the Lenovo Support site.
- Note: Be sure to select the specific product on the Lenovo Support site before downloading the driver. You can also find updates using the automatic scan feature.
Clean the touchpad.
- Dust or debris may interfere with its performance, so gently wiping it with a soft, damp cloth can improve responsiveness.
