Lenovo ThinkPad A285 Won't Connect to Wi-Fi
If your ThinkPad A285 is not connecting to the Wi-Fi or is connecting with no access to the internet, follow these steps to get your connection back up and running.
Poor Connections
If your device is not able to connect to the Wi-Fi or isn't able to detect any connections, it could be for a couple of reasons.
To solve this issue, first check to make sure that your Wi-Fi is turned on and that "Airplane Mode" is turned off. While it may seem simple, it is an easily overlooked possible solution. Additionally, you can try turning the devices Wi-Fi connection off and on again or restarting your device.
If these do not work, try connecting to a different network (e.g. a personal hotspot) to determine if the issue is with the Wi-Fi router. You can also check this by turning the router off and on again or leaving it unplugged for a few minutes. Forgetting and reconnecting to your Wi-Fi can help as well.
Poor Placement
Many solutions from the previous step can be used to fix this issue as well, however there a few more actions you can take.
If your connection cuts out or is especially slow at times, this can be because of the physical placement of your device. Thick or extra insulated walls can block signals being sent to and from your laptop, so avoiding these places can fix these issues.
Additionally, Windows has a built in "Network Troubleshooter Tool" that can be accessed by right clicking on the "Wireless Icon" on the right hand side of the taskbar and clicking "Troubleshoot Problems. Making sure that your drivers and software updates are all up to date can also fix this issue.
Malfunctioning WAN Card
If none of these worked, there are a few steps you can take as a last resort. First you can try resetting TCP/IP stack. To do this, search for cmd, right-click on command prompt and choose run as administrator. Then, type the command "netsh int ip reset c:\restlog.txt" and press Enter.
Next, you can try releasing and renewing the IP address. In order to do this, type "ipconfig /release" into the command prompt and press Enter. Then, type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter.
If Neither of these work, you can try removing recently installed apps, or if your device is running on Windows 10, you can uninstall ThinkVantage Access Connections software and have Windows manage the connections.
If none of the following steps have worked, and your device is still not connecting or is having an unstable connection, you might have a dysfunctional WAN card. To fix this, we have a detailed guide on how to replace it here: [INSERT LINK HERE]
