Computer Shows a Black Screen on Startup
After turning on the computer, the screen is stuck on a black screen before reaching the desktop.
Broken Graphics Card Driver
Press the power button at the black screen until your computer turns off. Hold the shift and F8 keys and then press the power button again. Hold shift and F8 until the screen displays "Please Wait". You should see a recovery screen. If you see a black screen again, retry these steps.
From the recovery screen, select See advanced repair options, then Troubleshoot, Startup Settings, and Restart. Your computer should now reboot to the Startup Settings screen. Select "Enable Safe Mode." It will reboot and allow you to log into Safe Mode.
Open the start menu and search "Device Manager." Expand the "Display adapters" tab and right-click on your graphics card. Select "Uninstall" and follow the prompts to complete the uninstall. Restart your PC and attempt to log in normally. If your machine continues to display a black screen, the hard drive may need to be [crwdns2936915:0crwdne2936915:0].
Computer Fails to Turn On
The computer refuses to start or turn on.
Inspect AC Adapter
Inspect the adapter for the computer, and ensure that the cord is not damaged or destroyed. If this is the case, please seek a replacement for the adapter as whole. If the cord is not damaged, then reinsert it into the charge port, and remove any other physical connections with the computer. Also, be sure that the AC adapter is connected directly with the wall socket, and not running through any surge protectors or extension cords. If necessary, try and use another device from the same power source, to be sure that the socket is providing power.
Reset attempt
Disconnect the computer from the charger, and remove the battery. Proceed, with battery and connector still out, to press the ON button for 5 seconds. Reinstall the battery, and attempt to turn on. Connect the charger, and attempt to turn on the computer. If these steps fail, proceed to contact Lenovo support immediately, their contact information can be found on their website at pcsupport.lenovo.com. Keep in mind that the computer is unibody in make, and battery removal is more intensive that what may be expected [Insert link here]. Please reference further wiki pages to determine how to properly remove a battery.
Computer Does Not Hold Charge
Computer fails to hold charge for long periods, or must be plugged in at all times.
Heavy Usage of Computer
Be sure that you are not demanding too much of your computer or system at one time. The projection of battery life is directly dependent on the amount of energy the system thinks it will need for the task at hand. Therefore, make sure you are not running too many system-intensive tasks at the same time. You may also turn off the Bluetooth setting, if not being used, or turn down the screen brightness to improve battery life. Finally, you may access the power management settings and change them to whatever settings will help with the battery.
Battery is Not Properly Connected
Ensure that the battery is properly connected and placed in the computer. To make sure of this, merely remove the battery, when the computer is not on, and then place it back into its place. Bear in mind that the computer is unibody in construction, and battery removal will be intensive, if one needs help, please reference wiki pages for instructions, or contact Lenovo directly. This will fix the issue if the battery somehow had become disconnected from the rest of the system. If this still does not yield results, you may want to swap the battery to a different, but similar, system, and see if it works properly. If it does not, then replacement may be the only solution [Insert link here].
Inspect AC Adapter
Inspect the AC adapter to be sure that it is not damaged or broken in any fashion. Further inspect the charging port and clean out any dust or debris in the area. Remove any other connections such as USB cables, this way the charging cable is the only physical input to the system. If the adapter is damaged, it will need replacement, and if the port is damaged then consultation of a computer repair service is in order.
Weak Battery
If the battery is still not capable of holding a charge, it may become necessary to replace the battery. Simply purchase a new battery and place it in the appropriate position. If this yields nothing, the system or computer as a whole may be at fault, and then other steps must be taken. Again, be careful around the uni-body make of the machine, and ensure that all steps are properly observed [Insert link here].
Computer is Running Progressively Slower and the Hard Drive Activity LED is Blinking
The computer seems to be running progressively slower the more it is used. The hard drive activity LED is blinking constantly.
Computer Has Ran out of RAM
Open Start on your laptop (the Windows logo on the bottom right of your screen). Open Settings (the gear shaped icon). Click system (the laptop-shaped icon). Click the About tab in the lower left corner. Review the "Installed RAM" section and note how much RAM your PC has installed. Now press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open task manager. Click the Performance tab to view how much memory your PC is using. If your PC memory is at capacity and you have been experiencing a progressively slower PC you may need to ugrade your RAM [Insert Link Here].
Audio Distortion
You have trouble listening to sounds on your computer
Reinstalling your audio driver
Test the audio through the computer speakers, then test it using headphones. If the laptop can not recognize the headphone when plugged in. You will then need to reinstall your audio driver. Make sure the audio jack is fully inserted in the laptop. If the audio is only distorted while listening on the headphone, the audio jack or the headphones may be broken. This will warrant a replacement.

In my case, there is an F8 button. I used it the first time and it worked but not the second time, there's nothing showing up when I press the buttons, just a black screen.

Hi, none of these suggestions work my compute. I have a laptop 510s and it just decided to go into a black screen. Could have been during a sleep mode period. But i cant get it to work properly even after downloading and reinstalling windows. It goes to the black screen at different parts of the installation or after the installation. How do i prevent this from happening. I have done the following:
Reinstalled windows a few times
Disconnected the battery and discahrge the static a few times
Reset the PC
Use USB recovery device
Tried the safe mode which never worked
Run startup repair which tells me it cant repair the issue, and
Used the command prompt to try and run diagnostics but it did not work.
When it installs it goes al the way to the windows start window but when it finishes the install and restarts it goes black at the welcome window or at the Lenovo start window.
Any help with this will be appreciated.
Thanks
Andy

Hi, i have Lenovo z510 i7 , bought in 2014. İt was really working well. But I wasn't doing the updates of windows. One day I just start doing it. After that the issues started. Now the third time it's done. Can not open/turn on the laptop. When I press open, the fans run, i see the light on working, and it's plugged so I see that light as well. But nothing in the screen. There little lights which is coming and going on the screen. Tryed => shift and f8, try to reset with small thing near the charger. And pressing long to power button. I can not see any boot menu. And when I plugged off there is a loud warning sound comes from the device. And after getting plug in sounds comes again. İt's the 3rd time happening. At 1st time(~2mounts ago) just wait 15min and it's open as normal. 2nd time happed (~20-30days ago) unplugged and wait to drain the power and reset and plug in nothing happens i make this like 10times and I just get hopelessly plugged and go, came back I see it was open.Help me to work this out.
