If your Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook 14M868 doesn't power on, follow this troubleshooting guide for possible solutions.
Device Is Not Charged
- Make sure the charging adaptor works, and charge your Chromebook fully. Try turning it on again once it is charged.
Device is Overheated
- If the laptop suddenly shuts down and does not turn back on, it may have overheated. Let it cool down before attempting to restart. If overheating happens frequently, consider using a laptop cooling pad.
- Also, use your Chromebook on a solid service, not on fabric, like a bedspread or tablecloth which can block the air vents.
- Avoid using it outside in hot weather for long periods or leaving it in the direct sun, like in your car when it's hot outside and uncovered.
Faulty Charging Port
- Check to see if the USB C port is clean. Does a charger sit flush against the bottom edge? If it sits at an angle or has a loose fit, the port itself may be clogged. Use a flashlight to inspect.
- Removing debris from a USB C port can be a bit tricky due to its narrow gaps. Use a dust blower and a toothpick shaved to fit to avoid damaging the port. Other non-conductive tools can be used in place of a toothpick, but avoid inserting anything metal into the port.
- Open the Chromebook and inspect for internal damage to the port, make sure it is attached soundly to the board, and free from burn or corrosion.
- If the port is damaged, you can replace it but it requires desoldering to remove and soldering a new port onto the motherboard. Alternatively, replace the motherboard and this should fix the charging port issue.
Faulty Battery
- If your battery has come to the end of its lifecycle, follow the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook 14M868 Battery Replacement guide to replace it.
- If you notice that your Chromebook battery looks swollen or puffy, be very careful when handling it. A swollen lithium-ion battery can explode and/or cause a fire, and should be handled with caution. Use goggles and other protective gear to protect yourself. Follow this guide for dealing with a swollen battery. Lastly, DO NOT continue to use the device if the battery is swollen.
Faulty Motherboard
- If you've checked all other possible issues, the motherboard may have failed. Follow the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook 14M868 Motherboard Replacement guide to replace the motherboard.
