Screen Flickering Black
A flickering black screen has notoriously occurred on battery mode while disconnected from the charger.
Outdated Drivers
Start by contacting Lenovo via their website/phone to be updated on the latest driver for the laptop. This should include the latest Intel and Nvidia graphic drivers available, or research this through Intel’s website with Lenovo bridge. Install all drivers and restart the computer as each install has completed to prevent software conflicts. After driver installation, right click the desktop to reach the Intel Graphics Control Panel. From there, go to “Power”, click “On Battery” and “Disable Panel Self Refresh”.
Faulty Power Plan
If that does not work, resort to editing the computer’s power plan. Search “edit power plan” in Windows, click “Change Advanced Settings” > “Display” > “Enable Adaptive Brightness”. Following this procedure, turn off “On Battery” for both drivers.
Loud Fans
The Fans on Your Computer are making an excessive amount of noise
BIOS Not Up-To-Date
Try to update the BIOS on the Lenovo support website and click “Downloads” under the most recent update for your operating system. Restart your computer once installed.
“Quiet Mode” Not Enabled
Enable “Quiet Mode” by booting your computer to BIOS. To boot to BIOS restart your computer and press the ESC, F1, F2, F8, or F10 key. Once there, go to “Configuration Page” and change system performance mode to “Quiet Mode”.
Overheating Processor
Try opening task manager and checking to see what is taxing your processor and manage program usage to reduce your processor’s temperature. Other issues can be fixed in the Overheating section of the troubleshooting page.
Device Overheating
Heat is increased to an excessive amount while working on your laptop.
Dust or Lint Stuck in Vents
The vents located under the case allow for proper amounts of air to flow around the fan blades. When dust clogs these vents air cannot sufficiently flow through the fans causing your laptop to heat up. This clogging causes the fans to work harder as well. Get a can of compressed air and point the nozzle directly at the vents. This should remove enough dust to ensure proper ventilation.
Inadequate Space for Ventilation
When working on your laptop, you want to make sure that there is enough space around it to allow for proper ventilation. Keeping your laptop upright and working on a flat surface can help prevent overheating.
Temperature of room is too high
Although obvious sounding, keeping you laptop in a cooler room can actually help resolve problems with overheating.
BIOS Not Up-To-Date
Try to update the BIOS on the Lenovo support website and click “Downloads” under the most recent update for your operating system. Restart your computer once installed.
Damaged Fan
Open up the back plate on your laptop and check to see if there is any physical damage to the fan. Follow this guide to see how to replace your damaged fan.
Touch Screen Not Working
The touch screen does not respond when tapping with fingers.
Dust on Screen
After being used for a while dust may begin to build up on the screen causing the touch screen function to stop working. To fix this all you need to do is wipe the screen with a slightly damp cloth or paper towel.
Internal Process Failure
There are many ways an internal process can get held up or stop working so here are some methods to restart/reset to get these processes working again.
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds, then restart the computer
- Go to device manager, locate Human Interface Device, disable and re enable the touch screen, then reboot device.
- Go to Device Manager, locate Human Interface Device, uninstall touch screen, then reboot.
- WARNING: This is a factory reset and will delete all of your data on your computer, only do this after you have completely backed up your computer and checked that none of the other solutions work. Turn laptop off, stick a pin or small object into the hole near the power switch, wait for logo to appear on screen, press F9 key, press Enter key, press F10 key, press Enter key, enter “Continue to Windows 10”
Device Not Charging
Your laptop does not charge when plugged in to the power cord.
Fatigued Device
Your laptop may not be charging due to device fatigue. Simply restart your laptop and try charging again.
Faulty Power Cord
Contact Lenovo and get your charging cord replaced.
Conservation Mode Turned On
Check to see if Conservation Mode is turned on is Lenovo Vantage. This mode only allows for charging if the laptop is below 50% battery life. If mode is on, turn it off.

Yesterday, my four-month old IdeaPad Flex 5 underwent a LENOVEO update. Since then it will not stay active. When I boot the system I am able to use it for anywhere between a few seconds and a few minutes but then the system freezes. It does not unfreeze on its own. I need to hold the on/off button in for 20 seconds and let the machine shut down. Then I reboot and the system comes up perfectly. Then it freezes. Then I reboot. Then it freezes. Any suggestions?

I have been dealing with this for a few days and tried to update driver, update computer, restarts, tried disabling and enabling the HID - compliant touch screen under the device manager and then restart. All with no luck.
Then on a whim I decided to search for lenova in the start up search bar having remembered their is a lenova app that may have a troubleshoot or something on it. Found Lenova Vantage app and launched it. Then under Support (right top corner) there is a drop down menu that has a link called Hardware Scan. Click this link. I hit the refresh modules button. This worked for me. Good Luck.

I have had the Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 and i always keep having the same issue over and over again, crashing at random making me force shutdown and restart. I have cleaned the inside of any dust thinking it was a heating problem because of all the dust but that wasn't the case. Then i have tried every possible optimisation option in windows but still same, could the crashing issue be related to the ram? I hope that is not the case since its soldered to the motherboard. Any idea what is causing these crashes?

My USB port is acting up not sending a signal to the monitor. However, when I plug and unplug the hdmi cord, it does make the chime sound indicating when it is connected and disconnected. I did try other hdmi cords and other monitors and have narrowed the issue down to the port. Is it possible to replace the port. If so, how do I find the part number. I can't find it on the lenova parts website.
