Kenmore 78423 Troubleshooting

You push the power button and the vacuum does not respond.

Follow the power cord to the power source, ensure proper installation of prongs into the outlet. If not plugged in, plug into the power source. Be sure power button on vacuum cleaner is in the off position before plugging back in.

Check service panel for tripped breakers/blown fuses. If breaker is tripped, reset it. If fuse is blown, replace it. If vacuum cleaner is plugged in, be sure power button is in the off position before resetting breaker/changing fuse.

You power on vacuum cleaner but it won't stay powered on.

This vacuum is equipped with a thermal protector. Turn off and unplug vacuum and allow it to cool and the thermal protector to reset. The thermal protector may overheat due to a clog in the dustbin. Vacuum powered on but does a poor job of sucking up dirt/vacuum has no suction.

The dust bin may not be closed all the way. Close dust bin until release button is latched. You should hear a "click." For more detailed instructions, check out our guide on how to [http://|empty the dust bin] and look at the last step.

Your vacuum hose may have an obstruction. Pull out the handle on the hose by turning the removal ring in either direction. Remove any clogs in the handle; shake the hose to remove any clogs. You may have to use a long, rigid stick to remove the obstruction. Insert handle back in place and return ring to its original position. Your filter(s) may be dirty or clogged. Follow our guide on [http://|removing the dust filter] in the dust bin and clean filter if necessary. If you are missing the included filter brush, use a gentle brush such as an old toothbrush. If you wash the filter, DO NOT use soap, only water. Allow it to dry for 24 hours before reinstalling. A hole in the vacuum hose will not allow proper suction. If there is a visible hole in the hose it needs to be replaced. To test for a hole that may not be visible by sight, you can remove the hose from the machine. Pass water through one end and check for leaks along the tubing.

Vacuum makes a high-pitched sound when powered on
