If you are able to connect to your speaker briefly before it disconnects, or you are unable to connect to your speaker at all, use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Speaker Already Connected to Other Device
If your device is not connecting despite both devices being in pairing mode, it may be that the speaker is quickly connecting to an already known device. Disconnect from any other paired devices before trying to connect again.
Outdated Software or Firmware
If your speaker is experiencing issues connecting to a new device or it consistently disconnects unprovoked, you may need update the speaker software or factory reset your device.
- If you are able to briefly connect via Bluetooth, you can see if there is an update available in the JBL Portable app. In the app, connect to your speaker. Under the tab “Product Information” you will be able to install an update if available.
- If there isn’t an update available, you will need to instead factory reset the speaker. In the same “Product Information” tab there should be the option to factory reset. After resetting “forget” the Bluetooth pairing between the speaker and your device.
If you are not able to establish a connection at all you will need to manually factory reset your device. To do this:
- Power on your device.
- Press and hold the VOL+ and Pause/Play button for 6 seconds.
- The speaker should then turn off and reset.
- Make sure to “forget” the Bluetooth pairing.
Broken Bluetooth Module
If none of the above solutions worked, the Bluetooth module may be damaged and need to be replaced. Follow our guide here to replace the motherboard housing the Bluetooth module.
