JBL Go Troubleshooting
Speaker is Not Producing Sound and is Showing Red Light
Speaker is not working at all and is only showing a red LED.
Malfunction due to removal from charger
To fix, power the speaker off by holding down the power button for about 20 seconds. Once the speaker is off, turn it back on. The speaker should work properly again.
Speaker Freezing/Blinking
Speaker will not play sound and the red light is blinking.
JBL Go has low battery
When your speaker reaches a low battery, the red LED light will blink indicating that it needs to charge. The JBL Go needs to be plugged in via the charging port to remedy this problem.
JBL Go has moved out of range
If Bluetooth pairing is working correctly, but the audio starts to skip, the paired device may have moved out of range. Ensure that the speaker and paired device are within the recommended range for the duration of pairing.
Failure to Pair via Bluetooth
Speaker is not connecting to other devices via Bluetooth.
Bluetooth is not on
Ensure that both devices are turned on and in pairing mode. For smartphones and computers, this means ensuring Bluetooth is on in settings.
Device is making other Bluetooth connections
One issue that users often encounter is that both devices are performing optimally, with the correct settings in place, yet the speaker or pairing device is pairing to other appliances within range. This can be resolved by turning off Bluetooth for all devices except the device meant to be paired with the JBL Go. To do this, find settings, and disable Bluetooth for all devices that are interrupting the Bluetooth connection.
Device is not charged
To fix this, ensure that the device is charged before attempting to pair via Bluetooth.
Device is out of range
Ensure your speaker and pairing device are within the recommended proximity before and during pairing.
Devices are near a Wifi router
Wifi signals can occasionally interrupt and interfere with Bluetooth connections. To fix this, move both devices away from a wifi router.
Pairing Device Lacks Necessary Software
To successfully pair your JBL Go to a computer, drivers are needed. If pairing to a computer is unsuccessful, your computer may lack the drivers necessary to pair. To download the necessary drivers, install the latest Bluetooth driver for your device from the manufacturer’s website.
Speaker Unpairing
The JBL speaker keeps disconnecting from Bluetooth.
Bluetooth Device is too Far from Speaker
If you are too far away from your device, oftentimes the speaker will not connect via Bluetooth. Make sure that your initial connection is made in close proximity to the speaker, then you can try moving away from the speaker. Also, if you move too far away from it even after connection, you may have moved outside of the connectivity radius and it disconnected. Try moving your device closer to your speaker.
Speaker is Connected to Another Device
Many devices have memory and will automatically connect to a known Bluetooth device when in range, because of this your speaker might have automatically connected to a device when it was turned on. If it is already connected, it won’t show up on your device. Try disconnecting the speaker from the device.
Device needs to be Power-Cycled
Oftentimes, a device like this speaker will get overwhelmed by internal data and will need to reset by being turned off and back on again. Do this by holding the power button until it turns off, then holding the power button again to turn it back on.
Speaker is Not Charged
It may have a power-saving feature in which it will not pair or stay paired when the battery is low to prevent the speaker’s battery from dying. Resolve this issue by making sure that your speaker is charged up.
Speaker Will Not Charge
Speaker will not respond or show any signs of powering up after charging.
Software Fix
The speaker’s system is often prone to bugs, so a reset will restore the speaker back to default settings and hopefully resolve the software issues. To reset the speaker, start by turning the speaker on using the Power button. Next, press and hold down both the Bluetooth and the Volume + buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. Once it has turned off completely, you can turn it back on by pressing the Power button. The reset should be complete.
Faulty Micro-USB Cord or Port
If the micro-USB charger is the problem, hopefully, it is just the cord. This is an easy fix, just buy a replacement charging cable. These cables are often damaged due to wear and tear and will lose connection in the wiring or the plug itself will get chipped or damaged.
If the cord is not the issue, you can also replace the micro-USB port on the speaker. Oftentimes, debris will get in the charging port and cause the cord to not fit properly, and if a cord has been shoved into the port to try to force it to fit, then the connector pins may be bent. First, check that there is not any dust or debris inhibiting the connection by blowing it out or wiping it out using a small object like a safety pin. If this still does not work you can order a replacement motherboard containing a new charging port. Take apart the speaker and replace the motherboard using this guide.
Damaged Battery
Make sure to rule out other possible problems before determining that the battery is damaged. Like many of us after years of wear and tear, the lithium-ion battery naturally will begin to lose its energy and regress. If your JBL Go is not holding its charge very long, check to see how old the battery is. After about six years of charging cycles, the battery will degrade and you will need to replace it. Once it’s confirmed that the battery itself is the problem, you can order a replacement battery. Make sure that the replacement battery you are ordering is compatible with the JBL Go. Take apart the speaker and replace the battery using this guide.
Distorted Audio
The speaker produces a static noise.
Bluetooth Device is too Far from Speaker
To fix this, ensure the JBL speaker is near the connected Bluetooth device.
Other Devices Interfering
To fix this, make sure that no other devices are connected to the speaker. Turn off all devices with the frequency range of 2.4 to 5.0 GHz to eliminate interference.
Power Rating from Power Sources is Low
To fix this, check that the power sources, such as USB ports or wall outlets, match the minimum power rating recommended for the speaker. The recommended rating can be found in the JBL Go manual.
Speaker is Not in the Preset Mode for Normal Listening
To fix this, reset the speaker by turning it on and holding down the volume up button and the multi-function button until the power button lights up. For regular listening, leave your speaker in the preset mode.
Outdated JBL software
To fix this, update the App whenever possible because it will free the App from bugs that may affect the speaker quality.
Damaged Speakers
To fix this, take apart the JBL Go and check the speaker and foam surrounds. If the foam is damaged, replace using this guide. If the woofer is damaged, replace using this guide.
Uncharged or Damaged Battery
To fix this, make sure the battery is fully charged before using the speaker. An old or damaged battery that cannot hold an adequate charge needs to be replaced. Replace the battery using this guide.
Faulty Bluetooth Receivers
In order to fix a faulty Bluetooth receiver, connect your device to another speaker. If the other speaker also does not work, there is a problem with the signal. If the second speaker does work, the problem is a faulty Bluetooth receiver. Replace the Bluetooth receiver by opening the speaker using this guide and unscrew the receivers from the cabinet. Screw in the new receivers.
Loose Wiring or Connections
To fix this, open up the back of your speaker by using this guide. Check the connectors on the back while listening to the noise the speaker is producing. Move the wires while listening to the sound being produced and solder the loose wire to keep it from coming loose again.
