Before we start with any diagnostics, let's make sure that the mouse in question is actually the issue and that the issue is not only occurring on your device. Try using the mouse on a different device (laptop, desktop, ...)
Is the same issue occurring if you are using mouse wired or wireless?
Have you tried raftory resetting the mouse?
Scroll Wheel Scrolling Erratically or Skipping
Description: Scroll wheel jumps, skips, or scrolls the wrong direction.
Possible Causes:
- Dust or debris inside the encoder
- Worn-out scroll wheel encoder
- Hardware issue
Suggested Fixes:
- Blowing compressed air into the scroll wheel area for a few seconds can fix the issue, but for most the problem reoccurs after a few weeks.
- Replace the scroll wheel rotary encoder
Some users suggest cleaning the scroll wheel encoder using a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol. However, on the HyperX Pulsefire Dart, the rotary encoder is a closed component, meaning this method is unlikely to reach or affect the internal contacts. Attempting this may not solve the issue.
If blowing compressed air into the scroll wheel area temporarily fixes the problem, the most likely cause is a dirty scroll wheel encoder. Over time, dust and debris can accumulate inside the encoder and couse issue.
However, if the issue persists, the encoder itself may be worn out due to excessive use. In this case, cleaning won’t help — the only reliable solution is to replace the encoder.
Pease do not attempt replacing the encoder if you mouse is still under warranty!
