This troubleshooting page will help you diagnose problems with the Hoover LiNX
The Brush is not Spinning
Check drive belt from brush motor to brush on underside. Remove dark cover (9 black screws) and remove brush to change belt.
If brush motor is not turning on power switch position 3. Remove both bottom covers and check for broken wire feeding brush motor. You have to remove the swivel housing to get at part of this wiring.
Pay a lot of attention to how the wires run. Take pictures as you will need them when you re assemble. If like me you use slightly thicker wires be prepared to trim some of the plastic away from the brush housing channels to allow the covers to fit back on.
The lighter coloured cover has 8 silver screws.
The Power Switch Is not Responding
~There is no response when the power switch is moved~
Faulty Power Switch
If the button moves appropriately but fails to respond there may be a problem with the motherboard. Try to replace the motherboard inside the handle using this guide.
Power Switch is Loose
If the power switch freely moves around and doesn’t click into place, the switch may have disconnected or broken off from the internal lever. Try to replace the switch using this guide.
Bad Suction
~The vacuum does not have sufficient suction ~
The Vacuum is not Sucking in Dirt
If the vacuum is failing to suck up dirt then the fan may have failed and needs to be replaced. Try to replace the fan using this guide.
The Vacuum is Blowing in the Wrong Direction
If the vacuum is not sucking up air but rather blowing air out from the nozzle then look at the fan blades inside the motor. See if the blades can be reversed. If not then the fan will need to be replaced. Try to replace the fan using refer to this guide.
Faulty Nozzle
~The nozzle is not operating properly~
The Nozzle is Clogged
If suction is occurring but not pulling up dirt then there might be some object obstructing the rear tube. Try taking off the dirt container and look into the rear tube for the object. If an object is present then try pulling the object out of the tube and reattach the dirt container.
The Nozzle Prongs are Broken or Bent
If the nozzle prongs are bent then try to bend them back to their correct shape. Try using pliers to bend the prongs so that the vacuum may slide back onto them. If the prongs are broken or bent beyond repair then the prongs need to be replaced. Try replacing the nozzle using this guide.
Dirt Entering Motor
~Dirt is able to enter the motor through the vacuum~
Filter is Dirty
The filter can be cleaned quite easily. Refer to the maintenance guide located on the bottom part of the housing.
The Motor is not Spinning
If the motor is not spinning then there may be a problem with the motor. Check to see if the belt is appropriately attached to the motor or broken. If it is not then place the belt in the appropriate position or replace it. If there is nothing wrong with the belt on the motor then the motor may be broken and will need replacement. Try to replace the motor using this guide.
Larger Objects on Filter
If larger objects are finding their way into the motor, check the red baffle to see if it is completely secured. Try to remove any object that find their way into the motor. Refer to the maintenance guide located on the bottom part of the housing.
Wheels Not Rolling
~The wheels will not move when pushed~
The Wheels is Stuck
If the wheel is not moving at all then there may be something restricting its movement. Try looking at the wheel to see if there is something obstructing the wheels from moving. If there is some dirt or string preventing the wheel from rolling then clean the area around the wheel and remove any dirt or strings. If an object is struck between the wheel and nozzle then remove the object.
The Wheel is Detached
If the wheel is no longer attached onto the vacuum try reattaching the wheel to its axel. To reattach the wheel slide the wheel onto the axel and it should click into place .

My baffle tube doesn't spin

I vacuumed up a piece of fabric which caused it to turn off. I’ve recharged it the power button lights up and turns off again. Can’t get it to work at all. Is it repairable?
Cheryl Seidner - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Have you found the debris that jammed your vac? It needs finding and removed. Once cleared if problems persist check the gear teeth in both the fan and Agitator motors.

Is there a fix for loudness? My Linx is so loud I never want to use it. I took it apart and cleaned all the connections and joints and such, but it's still too loud.
Clark Nova - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I got really great results by wiring a jumper to the battery terminals and mounting a Milwaukee 18v 9ah to the main body of the unit. Gotta love those 18650s!

It sucks up dirt but it spits it back out
JoAnne Leigh - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Try reinstalling the debris cannister. Pay close attention to the rectangle seal that joins the cannister to the suction line. Also check the foam air filter to make sure it's clean and seated correctly

The nozzle (or head) of my Hoover Linx won’t stay on the floor…it starts to lift immediately and I’m constantly having to push it back downward. I’ve tried WD40, ensuring no dirt is blocking, but nothing will free it up to stay down. Any ideas out there?
MTjernlund - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Wd40 is primarily a cleaning solvent (Water Displacement 40th Formula) and won't have any lubricating functionality. Additionally being an oil base it will collect dust and cause the opposite of your desired result. Instead try using a dry silicone lubricant(there are several grade variations designed for keyed locks)
But all that aside, lubricant of any kind is most likely neither the cause or cure of your issue.
If I were to guess I would wager the unit was dropped “slightly” and landed “hard” on its pivot wheel base with an overall acute angle to the floor. That impact most likely “jared” the pivot axle clamp enough to jam.
I would disassemble, trouble shoot the joint and then reassemble after making any necessary repairs.
Yours was an interesting question and I would be thrilled to hear a follow up….

Motor is unusually loud (not normal) when operating. Concerned it may burn out.
No clogging apparent. Should I take the casing apart?
Bill Craig - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
With the unit switched off and battery removed fully.. begin to remove enough bottom cover plate for you to get a good look at the belt drive and gear wheel for the brush transaxle. Manually rotate the belt testing for any noticeable wear or damage to that system. Also make your best guess regarding the belts tension. An over worked motor in a vacuum has three main causes; improper load(bad circuitry or battery) anomalous friction drag(debris or damage to the roller brush system or build up of dirt in the blower fan/air filter(liquid then dry medium).

On my Hoover Lynx the roller brush is not spinning. The brush is clean and free of any debris. When I turn on the two position switch the motor runs and creates the suction as highlighted by the suction only readout. Turn the switch to the next position which should activate the "suction brush roll" lights up/illuminates but does not not activate the brush roller. Belt is OK with no teeth missing on the belt or the nylon drive gear. And belt is tight and moves freely by hand.
Any help you could give me would truly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

This same thing happened to both of my Hoover Lynx due to the same issue: the wires that connect to the motor (and power the brush unit) get pinched because they are housed in the same area as where the vacuum head twists side to side. Eventually, one of them breaks which disconnects the brush. If you take the time to disassemble the entire head of the vacuum, down to the motor and wires, you can reconnect the wires again (good old fashioned electrical tape). If you continue to repair it, however, over time the wires will get shorter and shorter (and it's not exactly easy to get everything back together again). But, it's how I fixed mine about 10 times before it finally died (I ended up still using it only without the brush unit). I believe the new versions of this vacuum resolved that issue and ran the wires elsewhere. Good luck!

I'm not sure of the terminology but I can't get the head of the vacuum cleaner to stay attached to the stick. I don't hear it click into place and I have had to duct-tape it to keep it together--obviously not a satisfactory solution. Ideas? Otherwise it works.
Pamela - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
You mean the dust container that you take off to empty or the part with the wheels and the brush in it?
Bill - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Bill, The stick portion [with the dust container] no longer inserts with a "click" into the part with the wheels and brush in it. It doesn't "click" so it is loose and comes out easily.
