Laptop power depletes quickly when not connected to power.

If the computer runs only while connected to AC power, via the AC power adapter, it is possible that the battery will no longer charge. Refer to the battery replacement guide for replacement procedures.

Many computers utilize a memory effect within the battery. If the battery shows full charge and then depletes rapidly, it is possible that the battery is no longer fully functional. Refer to the battery replacement guide for replacement procedures.

The keys on the keyboard appear broken or missing, or will not respond.

If you have a key that has fallen out, try reinstalling it by pressing it into the keyboard on its designated spot. If this does not correct the issue, refer to the [crwdns2936915:0crwdne2936915:0] for steps to replace the keyboard.

When keys cannot be pressed, there may be something below the physical key holding it up, and preventing it from being pressed down. Attempt to remove the key and make sure nothing is stuck below it. You may need to wipe the area underneath with a cloth or gently blowing away any debris. Once it is clean, snap the key back into position.

If you still experience keys that are sticking or cannot be unstuck, or keys that cannot be removed, please refer to the [crwdns2936915:0crwdne2936915:0] for steps on replacing the keyboard.

After completing the above steps, the keyboard should now work correctly. If this did not fix your keyboard issues, it is possible you will need to replace the keyboard assembly or check for loose or faulty connections inside the computer. Refer to the [crwdns2936915:0crwdne2936915:0] for instructions.

The keyboard, TouchPad, or ClickPad on your laptop is not working as expected.

If the TouchPad does not respond to any input by the user, there may be a loose connection or the TouchPad may be inoperable. Refer to the “TouchPad removal/installation instructions” guide for replacement.

The monitor is black or showing no image, but you are sure the laptop is turned on.

Turn off the computer. Connect the computer to a power source using the AC power adapter. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time while the computer is off. While still pressing both keys, hold down the Power button for one second, and then release the Power button and the keys. If the power LED light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds, you might hear beeping sounds. Afterwards, an HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the BIOS update beings.

If the screen remains blank after these steps, you may have a faulty monitor or have a loose cable connection. Refer to the “Monitor removal/installation instructions” guide for replacement.

Over time, the computer has gradually slowed down and performance is faulty.

The most common cause of overheating is the accumulation of dust inside the laptop. Inadequate cooling from the fan inside your device can cause excess heat to build up inside the case which can damage components. The sound of the fan constantly running may indicate there is a problem with accumulated dust clogging the air vents.

If the computer starts but fails to load the operating system, the hard drive may have failed. Please refer to “System Board removal/installation instructions” for replacement.
