Is your HP Chromebook 15a-nb0013dx battery only holding a charge for a short period of time, not at all, or only when plugged in? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Battery Needs to be Charged
One easy step to fix this is to make sure the HP Chromebook 15a-nb0013dx is fully charged. Now try using the laptop to see if battery is drained quickly
Laptop is Overheating
If the laptop is resting on a surface that can insulate heat, that being your lap, carpet or any cloth type material it can cause the laptop to overheat. Try to place the laptop on either a raised surface or on a flat surface that is a uniform solid. Wooden tables or such should suffice for heat management outside of higher ambient temperatures.
Charger Making Poor Connection
Identify if the cable is fully plugged into both the battery and the electrical outlet. While very much an obvious solution, sometimes the power delivery of various electrical outlets can limit a charge being carried over which would cause the laptop to power on. If the current wall outlet, power surge connector or portable charger. Try different outlets to check if the problem isn’t with the cable itself.
Faulty Charging Port
Check the port to make sure there aren’t any obstructions to the device and cable. Since the charging port has a barrel connection that would cause the device to not receive power. When attempting to clean the charging port do not use any liquid products since that has a chance to damage both devices.
Needs Replacement Charger
If the original charger was damaged, and check for compatible chargers online and replace current faulty charger.
Need to Run Battery Report
To run a battery report you need to enter CROSH which is Chrome’s command line. This command will be ctrl+alt+t. Once CROSH is open run the command “battery_test”. This will cause the laptop to discharge for 5 minutes then it will generate a report on the battery health. The cycle count is how many times the battery has reached a full charge and typically a battery can last anywhere from 300-500 cycles before needing to be replaced.
Battery Needs Replacement
If all these solutions do not work, then it may be caused by a faulty battery. Battery deteriorates over time, and they have a life cycle. Take off the backplate and observe if the battery is swollen or puffy. Now replace the battery with these steps. Guide here
