Computer Not Turning On
Chromebook does not respond when power button is pressed.
Water or Physical Damage
Visually check your Chromebook for any damage. If there are any dents or scratches this could lead to some physical damage that can cause the Chromebook to not power on. If you spot some moistness or water anywhere on the Chromebook it most likely is water damage. If there is any damage that can be seen the warranty on the item is voided. Bring it to a tech specialist and either let them take it from there or perform a test on it. They will report to you the conditions of it and replace the broken parts. Battery is Low
Open the laptop screen press the power button. If the Chromebook doesn’t turn on automatically, it could mean the battery is too low to turn on. Plug in the adapter into a functioning wall outlet and connect to your Chromebook. The charging light should turn amber and according to HP it could take up to 24 hours to charge.
Power Supply Faulty
Make sure the adapter is plugged into a functioning outlet. Once the adapter is plugged into the Chromebook check to see if the amber charging light turns on. If it doesn’t, measure the USB Type-C end of the adapter with a volt meter. If there is no output this means that the adapter cord is faulty and a new one should be purchased.
Computer’s Battery is Faulty

Outlet is Faulty
Make sure the adapter is plugged into a functioning outlet by plugging in another functional device to see if it begins charging. If the functional device doesn’t charge, this means the outlet is faulty and you should find another one.

Plug the adapter into a functional outlet. Once the adapter is plugged into the wall, check to see if the light is on. If it doesn’t, that the adapter cord is faulty and a new one should be purchased.
Computer Not Responding to Charger
If the Chromebook is plugged into a functional adapter and outlet and the charging light is not on, wait at least 10 minutes to see if the Chromebook responds. If it still doesn’t respond to the charger, perform an embedded controller reset.
Computer Battery is Faulty
Plug the Chromebook into a functional outlet with a functional charger. After waiting 10 minutes and the amber light on the Chromebook is still not on, press the power button on the Chromebook. If the bottom begins heating, disconnect from the charger immediately. If this occurs or the Chromebook doesn’t turn on after being charged in this means the battery needs replacing.

Overheating
Test the Chromebook to see if it is at a high temperature. If this is the case, turn off the Chromebook and allow it to cool until it is no longer hot.
Virus
Run a trustworthy antivirus program (Norton, McAfee, etc.) on your Chromebook. The program will notify you of a virus and give you steps to follow to remove the virus.
Hardware Glitch
Logout of your Chromebook and Log into it as a guest. If the Chromebook doesn’t shut off on its own, log back into your account and restore your Chromebook to its default settings by going to settings, then advanced. Click “restore settings to the original defaults” and then the Reset Settings button. Restart your Chromebook. Log back into your account and enable only the programs needed one at a time. If the problem persists, delete the program that was causing the shutdown.

If none of the above methods solve this issue, consider buying and replacing the Chromebook’s battery.

Black Display
When the Chromebook displays a black screen, make sure the power light on the Chromebook is on and that it is charged. If the screen is still black, perform a hard reboot by holding the power button until the power light goes off. Turn the Chromebook back on, if that doesn’t work your screen must be replaced.
Black Spot or Vertical Lines on Display
When the Chromebook displays a black spot or vertical lines on the screen, perform a hard reboot by holding the power button until the light shuts off. Power the Chromebook back on. If the display problems are still present, perform a factory reset. Make sure all the data you want to keep is backed up. One way to factory reset it is by holding down Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r and select restart. Then in the box that appears select powerwash, and then continue. After this is completed follow the onscreen instructions. Another way is to go to settings, select advanced (located at the bottom), and go to the powerwash section. Select powerwash, restart, and in the box that appears select powerwash and continue. Then follow the on-screen instructions. If these steps don’t work, then you should replace your screen.

Devices Plugged into Computer
If computer is unresponsive, make sure to remove any external cables or devices that are connected, such as headphones, charging cables, or USB drives. This is to ensure that any of these devices are not a cause of this issue.
Problems with Chrome OS
If an error message is displayed on the frozen screen, there could be an internal problem within Chrome itself. Screen and Mouse Cursor Frozen
If you are experiencing that not only the webpage / screen is unresponsive, but you also can not move the mouse cursor, there may be an issue with the hardware of your computer. Performing a hard reboot may help your computer. Hold down the Power key until your computer is completely turned off. Once back on, open Task Manager and search to see if any there are any foreign apps, for these could be considered "viruses”. Try and uninstall these, immediately.
Computer is Frozen and Will Not Power Off

Unplug your computer from its charging cable / power source, and let the battery drain. When the computer is dead, wait a few hours for the processor (CPU) to cool down before connecting it back to its power source, and turning it back on.

Multiple Background Programs
If there are programs that automatically run, as soon as your computer starts up, this could be a cause of your slow computer. This could also be caused by multiple tabs, or open web pages, that are not being used. Remove or disable these startup programs, and closeout of web pages that aren’t being utilized.
Foreign Applications / Useless Applications
Applications that are rarely utilized, take up space on your computer, which can be a cause it running slower. If there are any applications that are not recognizable, be sure to delete them cautiously and immediately, for these could contain viruses, if opened. To search for your applications on your Chromebook, you will select the Launcher button, in the corner of your screen. This will display all your recently used applications. To view all your applications, select the Up arrow. Any “useless” apps or foreign apps can be deleted from there.
Outdated Software
Your computer’s software may be outdated, causing the computer to boot and run slow. Updates are vital to a computer’s performance, for they provide security fixes, enhanced features, and improve the stability of the software. These updates also provide protection to the latest threats. Make sure your computer is turned on, and it is connected to the Wi-Fi. Once your computer is fully booted, select Settings>Menu>About Chrome OS> Check for Updates. If your computer finds a software update, it will start to download immediately.
