If your HP Chromebook 14a-ne0013dx screen is frozen, lagging, flickering, or black and will not respond to key input or mouse movement, follow this page for solutions.
Battery Saving Settings On
If the device has certain power-savings settings on, the performance of the computer and screen brightness may be significantly reduced.
- Check the power-saving settings by clicking on the battery icon in the bottom right corner.
- Click on the settings app (gear icon) and type "battery" in the search bar and click on the option that says "Battery Saver" or "Power"
- Check the switch button on the battery saver option, when activated to the right, battery saver is on, when activated to the left, battery saver is off
Device Overheating
If the device is too hot, it may impede screen function. Using the device on materials such as thick blankets may block air flow in and out of the vents and can cause overheating.
- Unplug the computer, close any demanding applications, and place it on a flat surface where the vents can be unobstructed to cool. This will allow the internal fans to properly dissipate heat and prevent further damage.
- If available, consider cleaning out the vents of the Chromebook with compressed air.
Memory/RAM Overuse
If the device is handling too much information at one time, the screen can lag, freeze, or take a while to respond to mouse movements or key inputs.
- Leave the device open for a couple minutes and wait for the laptop memory/RAM to sync with the screen. Do not excessively click the mouse pad or slam down on the keys.
- If the laptop responds but is still lagging or slow at keyboard or mouse inputs, the memory/RAM may still be overloaded with information. Close any unnecessary open apps or Internet tabs.
- If the laptop refuses to respond or is still frozen or lagging, power down the laptop by pressing the Power icon on the keyboard and allow for the device to fully shut down and reset before turning it back on.
Outdated Drivers
If the graphic drivers are outdated or malfunctioning, it may cause visual issues.
- Open the settings app (gear icon) and search for "ChromeOS" in the search bar.
- Check that the device is fully updated (there will be an option to restart the device to apply updates if needed) in order to verify that the device drivers are up to date
Disconnected or Damaged Display Cable
If the screen flickers or does not display when it is bent at certain angles, the display cable may not be fully connected or may be damaged. Check that the display cable is properly connected by following the screen replacement guide.
Screen Damage
If none of the previous solutions work, the screen may have sustained damage. Follow the screen replacement guide.
