Optical (CD) Drive does not work
Your CD tray it falling out/stuck or it can't read CD's
Loose/Stuck Optical (CD) Drive
A way to test this would be to open the tray and see if it is loose i.e. gently moving it from side to side, or if it won't come out, wait until the next step. After making sure your device needs repairs follow this guide.

Your battery has little to no lifespan.
Old Battery

Too many running programs
Some applications or too many applications can just fry your Gateway NE56R49u. If you have a lot of tabs or applications open each with a rich amount of content your computer has to work harder than normal. Try saving your information for later use, using the power saving function, lowering your brightness, and turning off your Gateway NE56R49u when it's not being used to extend some battery life. as well as close unused programs:
1. Click search bar at the bottom left of the page and search "Task Manager"
2. Open Task Manager (you should see running programs)
3. Close all applications you aren't using right now
Device is Overheating
Your device heats up and is non-responsive.
Insufficient Cooling
When using your Gateway NE56R49u make sure it is properly placed so that the ventilation areas (left side) aren't being covered up by anything. Also make sure that you are using your computer in a suitable environment, so dust doesn't get into your computer and cause it to overheat that way. If your Gateway NE56R49u persists at overheating you may have to check and see if your fans are working or if there is any thermal paste on the processor. To check these components follow this guide.
Too Much Processor Use
If your Gateway NE56R49u isn't having a significant hardware issue then if may be do to overuse. If you haven't turned off your laptop in a while, then make sure you do so, as they are not meant to be on for long periods of time. If you have too many applications open this will also cause your Gateway NE56R49u to overheat, check task manager and possibly close applications that you aren't using that are still in the background. To do this:

1. Open the search bar located on the bottom left of your screen then search and open "Device Manager"
2. Click on your desired device that you believe needs to be updated
3. Click "Action" then "Update Driver" and choose automatically search
4. Download the recommended driver that it gives you
Keyboard doesn't work right
Your Keyboard is unresponsive to buttons or is missing keys.
Keyboard is missing keys and will not respond to key typing
If you have keys missing then the best possible replacement would be to just buy a replacement keyboard. The best way to do this is simply buy one from reliable sites such as Newegg. After gathering your material then you could follow this guide that goes over said process.
Stuck Keys
Dirty keys cause the keyboard to stick to the bottom of your keyboard. An easy fix to this would to buy canned air. Then, follow this process:
1. Take your compressed air and aim it at effected key
2. Press down on button til air comes out, making sure you hit under the key
3. Test key to make sure it works
4. Repeat process if key gets stuck or on other stuck keys
