Fujifilm XP20 Troubleshooting

You are unable to turn the Fujifilm XP20 on and it seems as if there is no power.

If your Fujifilm XP20 does not turn on, first, look on the right side of the device relative to the LCD screen. There is two small black hatches that both can be opened. The larger of the two is the battery hatch. On the face of the hatch there is a small, black, sliding button with an arrow pointing in the direction of which to push it if you want to open the hatch. Push it completely to that end and the hatch will flip open.

Ensure that the battery is completely pushed down and pop into place. Once you have done this, push the hatch back down into place over the battery. While holding pressure on the hatch, push the black slider button in the opposite direction of the arrow, if it did not close on its own, and to its end until you hear it click back on. The button may be slightly hard to push, but this is normal for the Fujifilm XP20.

Also, if you still cannot close the hatch, ensure the opposite hatch is also closed, and if so, the latching mechanism may be damaged.

Once done, press the red power button to the right of the LCD screen and see if the device turns on.

If your Fujifilm XP20 still does not turn on after ensuring the latch is closed, your battery may just be out of power. The next step would be to try and charge your battery. Again, use the previous instructions to ensure the battery hatch is closed and try this first. If that still doesn't work, on the same side of the camera as the battery hatch, there is a smaller black hatch with a sliding black button. This is where the USB charging port is. There is a similar black sliding button on the battery hatch that must also be opened if you wish to open the USB hatch. Slide the Battery hatch button, in the direction of the arrow next to it, to its end and the hatch will open. Then, do the same with the USB button an it will open.

Under this hatch there is the USB charging port. The port type is a USB 2.0 Data Cable/Lead, but if you have the cable that came provided with the device, use that. Using that cord plugged into the camera, either plug the opposite end into a power unit, or plug it into a small power converter so that it can be plugged into the wall. Once this is done, allow the camera to sit, plugged in and powered off, for at least 30 minutes. Then, to test if your battery is still working properly, unplug the device, and close the hatches.

You will first need to close the USB hatch, then the Battery hatch. To close these, push the hatch back down into place. While holding pressure on the hatch, push the black slider button in the opposite direction of the arrow, if it did not close on its own, and to its end until you hear it click back on. The button may be slightly hard to push, but this is normal for these types of cameras.

Once done, press the red power button to the right of the LCD screen and see if the device turns on.

If, after ensuring the hatches are both closed and that you have charged the device battery for an appropriate amount of time, your camera still does not turn on, you may have a dead battery that no longer works. You will need to replace this with a similar type of battery. Check with Fujifilm to ensure the replacement is compatible with the Fujifilm XP20.

If after ensuring the hatches are both closed, that you have charged the device battery for an appropriate amount of time, and replacing the battery with a new, compatible one your camera still does not work, there may be a larger issue. The internal components of the camera may be damaged and need to be replaced.

Pictures are appearing grainy or blurry

The autofocus (!AF) is apparent during focusing and shooting of the picture. For better resolution in close-up pictures, select the macro mode by pressing the left selector with the single flower on the button and then pressing OK/MENU. To focus on off-centered objected, select the focus lock setting. To lock to focus, place the photo subject into the frame, press half-way down on the shutter button. After the photo is focused, press the shutter button the rest of the way down to take the picture.

While taking the picture, there could be an object in front of the lens. Be sure to keep all fingers and other objects away from the lens.

The lens may be covered in dirt, oil, or any other material that may blur the image. Take a microfiber cloth with an alcohol based cleaner in order to remove all dirt and oil on the lens. It is important that you use a microfiber cloth in order to not create scratches on the lens. The scratches will also cause blurry images.

If the object being captured is moving, or if the photographer is moving during the process of capturing an image, the image may come out blurry if the shutter speed is not fast enough. For more stable pictures, manually change the shutter speed, and use a tripod to steady the camera during capturing.

The buttons to control your camera stop working and will not operate the camera.

If the buttons are not working on the Fujifilm XP20 there may be dirt or some other particles interfering with the connections or the connections could just be broken. Take a clean cloth and wipe the buttons gently to get any dirt or particles that could possibly interfere with the connections. Make sure to clean out any small crevice.

If your LCD screen will turn on, but you cannot control it, and you may also experience problems operating the camera lens, then you may have some internal damage. The mother board/ circuit board may be damaged or broken and need replaced. Another problem you may have if this is the case, is that the buttons work momentarily and then go away. This could mean that the wire connections are loose/frayed and need to be repaired.

The hatch that covers the battery will not close and/or latch.

If your hatch will not close, first ensure that the USB hatch it closed first. To close these hatches, push the hatch back down into place. While holding pressure on the hatch, push the black slider button in the opposite direction of the arrow, if it did not close on its own, and to its end until you hear it click back on. The button may be slightly hard to push, but this is normal for these types of cameras. Once you are sure the USB hatch is shut, make sure that the battery is pushed fully down into place. If not, simply push it the rest of the way in until it pops into place. After this, also make sure there is no dirt or other particles that are near the hinge of the hatch. Finally, try and close the battery hatch the same way you closed the USB hatch listed above.

If you cannot swing the hatch that covers either the USB port or the battery i.e. it will not move smoothly, this may be your issue. Ensure that the area around the hatch and hinge area is clear and clean. If the hatch still does not swing, the hinge may be damaged and this may need replaced.

Again, to close the hatches, push the hatch back down into place. While holding pressure on the hatch, push the black slider button in the opposite direction of the arrow, if it did not close on its own, and to its end until you hear it click back on. The button may be slightly hard to push, but this is normal for the Fujifilm XP20.

If your hatch will swing shut, but the black sliding button will not slide, then the latch on the hatch may be damaged. Ensure that the button is clean and clear of any foreign particles and if it still does not work, you may need to replace the latch.
