Capresso Perfectea 260 Troubleshooting

The kettle gives off a chemical odor and/or the water tastes of chemicals when turned on.

To remove the chemical smell and taste, boil vinegar mixed with water in the kettle. After the mixture comes to a boil, allow it to sit for 3 minutes before pouring out the mixture. Repeat the process with water several times to remove the vinegar smell. The smell should go away with repeated use.

Your kettle will not turn on. If the kettle turns on but will not heat the water, see "Heater Trouble" below.

Plug the kettle in.

The wiring that powers the kettle may be damaged. See our Control System Replacement Guide for instructions about how to fix this.

When the water heater is turned on, it will either not heat, fail to heat at random intervals, or go to the wrong setting.

If your heater is turning on or off randomly or not turning on at all even though the machine itself is powered, the wiring in the heating element may have grown loose or damaged by the heat. If the buttons and dial do not control the heater, the control system may be damaged. See our Control System Replacement Guide for help with repairing the wiring in the control system.

If there is discoloration at the bottom of the kettle, there is a calcium build up in the kettle

To remove the calcium, boil vinegar mixed with water in the kettle. After the mixture comes to a boil, allow it to sit for 3 minutes before pouring out the mixture. Repeat the process with water to remove the vinegar smell.
