When the power button is pressed, the computer does not turn on.

If the computer is not powering on and it has been plugged into the charger, the charger (AC Adapter) may be broken. To see if the adapter is working correctly, start by performing a hard reset on your laptop (hold the power button down for 20 seconds and then try to power it back on by hitting the power button again 30 seconds later) without the AC adapter plugged in.

If the laptop is not turning on, you can try removing the computer's battery, plugging in the AC adapter back into the laptop and attempting to power it up again. If the power light turns on when you have the AC adapter plugged in, it most likely is not an issue with the adapter. However, if the power light does not turn on, your AC adapter may not be supplying enough voltage to your computer to power it up. If this is the case, try a different adapter that is compatible with your laptop.

If you're attempting to turn on your laptop, the battery lights are coming on, and the screen is still blank and not responsive, there may be an issue with the RAM (random-access memory, a form of data storage that stores data and code currently being used). A reset of the RAM may be necessary at this point. Reset the RAM by releasing the RAM and then re-inserting it. Follow this guide to learn how to access the RAM. If that doesn't resolve the issue, the RAM will need to be replaced.

Your laptop is turning on, but nothing is being displayed on the screen.

If you have recently dropped your laptop, or even if you haven't, you might be having issues with the screen not displaying anything. A possible issue could be loose cabling inside your screen. You can try plugging your laptop into an external monitor to see if you get any display on that. If not, you can try lightly pushing on the screen with your thumb and that may fix the cabling issue.

You could possibly have a damaged screen. If your laptop has been dropped recently or experienced water damage it could cause an issue in the display. You may need to replace the monitor with this guide.

The volume on your computer is set to the highest level, but no sound is being emitted.

If you are having problems hearing the sound from your laptop, this could be due to your sound setting accidentally being disabled. This is a simple fix that can be accessed through the control center on your start menu. Go to your control center and select "Sound." In this sound menu, you can enable and disable sound. Select enable, if it is set to "disabled", to turn computer sound back on.

If you are having problems hearing the sound from your laptop, your audio drivers may be out of date. In order to fix this, you must access the manufacturer's website to search and download the latest drivers. If none can be found, you can try running a diagnostics test provided by the manufacturer.

The keys on the keyboard are not responding.

In order for you to use your keyboard, the laptop needs detect a functional keyboard when the device starts up. If the device is unable to detect the built-in keyboard it will alert you by making several beeping noises. If this occurs you can go to the manufacturer’s website to download the latest drivers so that you can reinstall them using a USB keyboard.

If this does not solve the issue then you can check if your device has registered your keyboard in its Device Manager. To get to the Device Manager, click your start menu bar and use an external keyboard to search Device Manager. Click on the result to open the program and then go to the tab labeled Keyboard. If your keyboard shows up, make sure that the drivers have been updated. If this does not solve the issue the problem may be the keyboard’s hardware.

If the laptop is able to start up, but there is a beep, then the keyboard may have a stuck key. You will need to test each key to find any that are stuck and then you must clean or replace them.

If the laptop can not start up because of stuck keys you must check each key to see if they are moving normally. If any keys behave differently it will need to be cleaned or replaced. If you can not find any stuck keys, disconnect that keyboard and test a USB keyboard to check whether the problem is your laptop or keyboard. If the original keyboard was the problem, you can replace it with this guide.

Computer is connected to the charger; however, it is not charging.

A defective battery would prevent the computer from holding a charge and/or prevent the computer from charging in general.

You must perform a visual inspection of your battery to see if the battery is defective. If you notice that the battery appears to be swollen or is overheating, a battery replacement will be necessary. Follow this guide.

If the power adaptor is not functioning correctly, your computer may not be receiving enough power to charge.

To determine whether or not the power adapter is functioning correctly, check to see if the indicator light that is located on the power adapter is turned on when the computer is plugged in. If the light is not on, plug the power adapter into a different power outlet. If the light on the adapter still doesn’t turn on after you plug it into a new power outlet, the current power adapter is defective and will need to be replaced.

If the indicator light turns on, but the computer still doesn’t charge, test the voltage the power adapter is emitting with a multimeter. Place the positive multimeter lead inside the round female power socket and place the negative lead on the external portion of the socket body. If the read on the multimeter is not approximately 19.5V, the current power adapter is defective and will need to be replaced.
