Laptop Will Not Power On
The laptop will not turn on or display any signs of powering up.
Device is Not Charged
First, make sure your device is charged. Place your device on the charger for several hours and then try to turn it on. Also, make sure you have securely inserted the power adapter into the port—you should feel a small click. You may need to try several different outlets as well to ensure that you have a functional outlet.
Faulty Power Adapter
There could be a problem with the power adapter and not the laptop. Make sure that the cords going into and out of the power brick are fully inserted. If your power brick is equipped with a light, it should be on when plugged in. If not, you may have a faulty adapter. If your adapter is not equipped with a light, you need to try charging the device with another cord. You should also feel along the length of the cord for any breaks or kinks as these could indicate a broken connection.
Faulty Battery
The problem could be with the battery itself. You can remove the battery and try powering the device on while plugged into the AC adapter. To do this, please see This Guide on removing the battery from the Asus Q502LA-BSI5T14. If the device turns on while the battery is removed, you probably need a new battery.
Touchscreen Unresponsive
Screen has a slow response time or is completely unresponsive with human touch.
Screen is Scratched or Cracked
If your screen is severely scratched or cracked, you may need to replace the glass of your screen.
Dirt and Grease Build Up
Dirt and oils from your skin can cause a buildup on the screen. In order to clean the screen and possibly restore functionality, use a non-scratch cleaning cloth and a screen cleaning fluid to wipe away the dirt on the screen.
Improper Calibration
Touchscreen response can deteriorate over time. If your screen is responsive, but your selections are inaccurate, the device may need recalibration. Restart your laptop, swipe in from the right and tap search. Search for “calibrate” and select “calibrate the screen for pen or touch.” Follow the on-screen prompts to recalibrate your screen.
Laptop is Freezing
If your laptop is repeatedly freezing, you may need a software update. To check for an update, select the Updates tab on your display. The download should automatically begin and fix the freezing problem.
Keyboard Not Responding
Key(s) will not respond when you type.
Keys Stuck in Place
If you cannot depress a key, there may be an object or dirt stuck underneath it. First, try to clean underneath the key with compressed air to dislodge any accumulated debris. If the key is still stuck, you will need to remove the key to dislodge whatever is underneath it. If there is no object under the key, inspect the key and the space underneath to see if there are broken pieces. If a piece is broken, it will need to be replaced.
Laptop in Tablet Mode
This laptop is capable of switching between “tablet mode” and “laptop mode.” If your laptop is stuck in tablet mode, the keyboard will not work. Running too many processes at once can cause the switch between modes to lag, resulting in an incomplete switch. Before switching modes, quit any excess programs to free up RAM processing power. You can also install more RAM to ensure adequate processing power; please see This Guide for instructions.
Keyboard Has a Factory Fault
If the entire keyboard stops responding, there may be a fault in the hardware or software connections of the keyboard. You can try replacing it withThis Guide.
Keyboard Not Lighting Up
Keyboard is not visible in dim lighting.
Backlight is Not Turned On
This laptop keyboard has different levels of brightness, so ensure that your keyboard's backlight is turned up to an appropriate level. To do this, hold down the key marked “Fn” on the lower half of the keyboard. Then press the “F4” key– it has an image of a keyboard with a light above it. Each time you press this button, it will raise the backlight by one level. Repeat this process until the keyboard is adequately lit.
Driver Not Up To Date
If there is no response from the keyboard backlight, you may need to update the driver. ASUS calls this driver the ATK driver. To install this, go to ASUS Support and select the options for your laptop from the drop down menus. Scroll down to find the ATK package, download it, and follow the prompts to install and run it.
Headphone Jack Not Working
Sounds are not audible through headphones.
Headphones Broken
It is possible that the headphones are the problem. To determine if the headphones are the problem, plug them into another device to test them. If you can’t hear any audio, you likely have a broken pair of headphones.
Headphone Jack Needs Cleaning
Over time, a lot of dust and lint can accumulate in the headphone jack. The dirt can block the connection, so you should try and clean it. You can use a can of compressed air to blow into the headphone jack to dislodge the dirt. You can also use a cotton swab inserted gently into the headphone jack to remove stubborn dirt.
Physical Damage to Headphone Jack
If the connection between the headphones and jack is loose, the headphone jack may have suffered physical damage and it will need to be replaced.
