Touchpad does not register clicks or mouse movement

Verify that the touchpad key is on (if it is available). You can also turn off/on the

function by pressing depending on which generation of the device you have.

1. Once the driver is installed, the device should surface under Microsoft Windows Device Manager as “Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad”
2. Go to the Control Panel -> Mouse -> Device Settings -> Settings, and check that all the features are set properly and are not turned off.

The touchpad may be faulty and you should consider sending the product in for replacement.

The laptop is plugged in but shows no sign of charging. Battery level remains the same or slowly reduces when plugged in

The power adaptor of the laptop may be faulty if there is no indication of charging when the device is plugged in. This laptop displays a red light when it is in charging mode. Try multiple power outlets before determining whether to purchase a new power adaptor. As this device uses a standard 4.75 mm power adaptor, try testing another power adaptor from a similar device if you have one. If there is still no charging indicator light, considering purchasing a new adaptor.

The battery may become loose after extended use and fail to charge. If you think this is the case for your device, try following the steps below:

1. Completely shut down the device and unplug the power adaptor.
2. Turn the device around and locate the battery. If you cannot locate it take a look at our battery replacement guide [here]
3. Remove the battery from the device.
4. Plug the power adaptor directly into the device without the battery. The device should power on using power from an outlet.
5. Reinsert the battery into its slot on the device and lock it.

The battery may be faulty and needs to be replaced if it still fails to charge. Please refer to our battery replacement guide [here] after you have purchased a new battery.

Keyboard fails to work, certain keys do not respond to commands

Certain letter keys and numerical symbols have been shown not to work unless the “function” button is pressed at the same time. Numlock may be activated which prevents access to typing regular letters and numbers. There are 2 simple methods to disable this feature.

Click the “Start” button

1. Click “Run”.
2. In the space provided type “regedit”.
3. Click “Yes” on the popup that asks to run the program.
4. The Registry Editor will open up, beneath Computer you click on the file named “HKEY_CURRENT_USER”.
5. Beneath that click “Control Panel”.
6. Go to “Keyboard”.
7. Click “InitialKeyboardIndicators”.
8. If the value is at 2, which means the numlock is on, switch it to 0.
9. Restart the computer.
10. Numlock should be off and the keyboard should type properly now.

If Method 1 does not work then there is a second method:

1. Open up Notepad.
2. Copy and paste set WshShell = CreateObject("wScript.Shell") WshShell.SendKeys "{NUMLOCK}" into the Notepad
3. Save file name as Numlock.vbs onto the desktop.
4. Numlock should be deactivated and keys should type normally.

If certain keys are stuck and do not respond to any troubleshooting methods, there may be an issue with the keyboard row or column. A keyboard replacement guide can be found [here].

If you are experiencing distorted images on your screen, it may be because of incorrect resolution.

On the home screen, left-click the ASUS EeePC Tray Utility icon in the Notification area to adjust the display resolution. Select the resolution based on your computer activities and needs.

• Note: When your EEE PC is in CRT only and the power mode is Power Saving, you MUST AVOID using a resolution higher than 1024 x 600 pixels. Any resolution higher than this can result in the external monitor functioning abnormally.

If an image still attempts to pop up on your screen and appears to be discolored or distorted, it may because it is time to change the driver. Please follow these steps to update the driver:

1. Use the power button to turn off the computer; wait 15 seconds and then power it back on. Sometimes only a rebooting of the connection to the computer can solve simple issues.
2. If the problem persists, turn the computer back on. Right-click on the desktop and left-click “Properties.” Left-click on “Display Settings,” and a new window will appear. Change the computer’s resolution by one notch on the sliding bar, and left-click on the “Apply” button.
   • Note: your screen will black out for a few seconds and then come back.
3. Find the name of the video card. Right-click on “My Computer” and then on “Manage.” In the new pop-up window that appears on the left side, left-click on “Device Manager.” On the right side of the window, double-click on “Display adapters.” The name of your video card should pop up.
4. Find the newest driver with a Google search. Open a Google search, and type in the exact phrase you found in the step above. Add the word "driver" to the end of the phrase and do the search.Look through the results carefully to find your video card’s driver. If you find the driver, download and install it. If not, go on to the next step.
   • Note: A driver is the special software that pieces of hardware, like video cards, use to communicate with your computer. They can sometimes become corrupted or too outdated and cause errors to appear on your screen if not replaced over time.
5. Roll back the driver. Go back to the "Display adapter" from Step 2. Right-click on the video card's name. Left click on the "Properties" option that appears from the menu.
6. Left-click on the "Driver" tab in the new window, and then left-click on "Roll Back Driver” to complete the action.

1. Remove any discs you may have in the computer. Then, hold the power button down to turn off the power.
2. Remove the battery and unplug the computer. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Reinstall the battery and plug in the computer. Wait 30 seconds.
4. Hold the power button down for 10 seconds. If this does not work, proceed to the next step.
5. Insert an unwound paperclip into the Reset button on the laptop. Please note that this will reset the computer.
