Faster unibody after 1 TB SSD hard drive upgrade

My unibody was running slow. I upgraded my unibody in stages. After maxing it out to 8 GB RAM last week, I upgraded it to a 1 TB SSD hard drive.

The repair was easy! The same unibody came alive and this incarnation was a faster machine. I’m so incredibly happy I did this! My unibody is way faster than its original configuration of 4 GB RAM + 320 GB HDD.

I highly recommend getting the upgrade kit. The silicone hard drive enclosure came in handy when I cloned my hard drive. I can also use my old HDD as an external hard drive because of it. The 26 bit driver kit also had the right kind of screwdrivers.
I used carbon copy cloner to clone my old 320 GB HDD onto the new 1 TB SSD (basically created a bootable backup including a clone of apple’s recovery HD partition). This is a matter of preference…I cloned the hard drive first before swapping them. I put the 1 TB SSD drive into the silicone hard drive enclosure & connected it to my unibody via the USB cable. I formatted the SSD prior to cloning and it took 3:42:33 to clone 175.45 GB.
I cleaned the inside of my unibody while I was in there. Mine was dusty so I used a can of compressed air & shot short bursts of air to blow visible dust off. I also swiped the dust off the inside of the lower case with a soft cloth.

Good job! I may be doing this with my 13" macbook pro mid 2010. I also did the 8GB RAM upgrade, but the battery might come first; will wait for ssd upgrade...
