Final Thoughts

  • The Pixel 2 XL earns a 6 out of 10 on our repairability scale (10 is the easiest to repair):

  • Many components are modular and can be replaced once the display assembly is removed.

  • All of the screws are common Phillips #00 screws, and there are only 9 of them.

  • The display is still thin and poorly supported, especially around the grilles, but foam adhesive makes the opening process easier.

  • The battery's loss of pull-tab adhesive, plus tightly walled-in placement, makes it much harder to remove.

  • The stubborn midframe and tight-fitting display cable covers make for more labor-intensive repairs.

Abschließende Gedanken

Das Pixel 2 XL erhält 6 von 10 Reparierbarkeitspunkten (10 punkte entsprechen der einfachsten Reparierbarkeit):

Viele Komponenten sind modular und können, nachdem die Displayeinheit entfernt wurde, ausgetauscht werden.

Es sind nur 9 Schrauben vorhanden und bei allen handelt es sich um handelsübliche #00 Kreuzschlitzschrauben.

Das Display ist immer noch sehr dünn und wird insbesondere im Bereich der Schutzgitter an den Lautsprechern eher spärlich verstärkt . Schaumkleber ermöglicht allerdings eine einfachere Öffnungsprozedur.

Da der Akku nicht mit herausziehbaren Klebestreifen versehen wurde und sehr eng in seiner Fassung sitzt, ist das Entfernen schwerer.

Der störrische Mittelrahmen und die eng anliegende Abdeckungen des Displaykabels sind eher auf eine arbeitsintensive Reparatur ausgelegt.
