  • Always wear protective gloves and eyewear when working with motor oil. Be careful if your car has been running recently as the engine and exhaust may be very hot. Keep rags or towels nearby to wipe up any spills.

  • Use a 17 mm box end wrench to loosen the drain plug 3/4 of a turn.

  • Loosen the drain plug by hand until it comes free and oil begins to drain out of the oil pan.

  • Watch the draining oil for shiny specks. Metal flakes in the oil are a part of normal engine wear—but, an excessive amount of metal flakes could indicate a serious problem. Consider saving your oil and sending a sample to a lab for analysis.

Draag altijd handschoenen en een veiligheidsbril bij het werken met motorolie. Wees tevens voorzichtig als je auto net heeft gelopen, aangezien de motor en de uitlaat nog steeds heet kunnen zijn. Houd ook altijd een oude doek bij de hand om mogelijke lekken direct op te kunnen ruimen.

Gebruik een 17 mm ringsleutel om de plug voor 75% open te draaien.

Draai het laatste stuk van de plug los met de hand en als het goed is, zal de olie uit je auto beginnen te lopen.

Bekijk de olie die uit je auto komt en let goed op of er metalen stukjes in voorkomen. Metalen stukjes zijn in principe normaal door het verslijten van de motor—maar, een overmatige hoeveelheid aan metalen stukjes in de olie zou op een groot motorisch probleem kunnen duiden. Overweeg de olie te bewaren en het naar een lab te sturen.
