Cropping

  • The last step is to crop your picture to a 4:3 aspect ratio. The guides will not accept any images of a different ratio.

  • A key to cropping photos is to make sure that the subject of the photo is large enough, while also not so large that it overpowers the picture area. For example, the first picture is cropped too tightly as many edges contain very little white space.

  • The second picture has good vertical margins, but poor centering.

  • The third picture shows a good picture crop, as there is some white space around the centered subject.

  • Cropping perfectly centered on the subject may not always be desirable. If there is a particular part or action occurring on the subject, you will want to center the crop around that. This may entail cropping part of the subject out of the picture.

Bijsnijden

De laatste stap is het bijsnijden van je foto naar een 4:3 beeldverhouding. De handleidingen aanvaarden geen foto's met een andere beeldverhouding.

De sleutel tot het bijsnijden is er voor te zorgen dat het voorwerp groot genoeg is in de foto, maar niet zo groot dat het de oppervlakte van de foto domineert. De eerste foto is bijvoorbeeld te nauw bijgesneden, aangezien de randen erg weinig witruimte bevatten.

De tweede foto heeft goede verticale marges, maar is slecht gecentreerd.

De derde foto is goed bijgesneden. Er is voldoende witruimte rond het gecentreerde voorwerp.

Het onderwerp moet niet altijd gecentreerd staan. Als er een specifiek onderdeel of actie in beeld komt, wil je dat deze het midden van de foto is. Zo zou het kunnen dat je een deel van het voorwerp wegsnijdt uit de foto.
