  • The central processing unit (CPU) is a lot like the "brain" of a device. It handles all of the necessary calculations to run the operating system and all of your applications.

  • Although CPUs can vary greatly in size, it's generally fairly easy to identify them. Most devices have a heatsink (see previous step) keeping the CPU cool. Find the heatsink, and you'll generally find the CPU hiding underneath.

  • Be careful when removing CPUs, because they can be very delicate. Additionally, some CPUs (Apple's A7 for example) can't be removed because they are soldered into the motherboard. If a CPU doesn't come off easily, do NOT try to desolder it, as you might cause irreparable damage to it.

De Central Processing Unit (CPU) lijkt veel op het "brein" van een toestel. Het maakt alle noodzakelijke berekeningen om je besturingssysteem en alle andere applicaties te laten draaien.

Hoewel CPU's enorm kunnen variëren in grootte, zijn ze vaak makkelijk te vinden. De meeste toestellen hebben een koellichaam (zie vorige stap) die de CPU koelt. Als je dus het koellichaam vindt, is de CPU er vaak direct onder te vinden.

Wees voorzichtig bij het verwijderen van CPU's, omdat ze erg gevoelig kunnen zijn. Sommige CPU's (Apple's A7 bijvoorbeeld) kunnen niet worden verwijderd omdat ze aan het moederbord vast zijn gesoldeerd. Als een CPU niet gemakkelijk loskomt, probeer deze dan NIET los te solderen, aangezien dat niet te repareren schade aan kan veroorzaken.
