How to use the Non-Contact Voltage detector

  • The Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) function allows you to sense AC power in a circuit or wire without having to electrically connect to it.

  • The NCV sensor sits inside the plastic nub at the top of the iFixit multimeter. The metal strip inside acts as an "antenna" that detects the electromagnetic field generated by an AC source. This field gets stronger the closer it is to the source.

  • The NCV won't detect whether there's DC power in a circuit or wire.

  • The NCV may not always detect a live circuit or wire. For safety reasons, never rely on the NCV as your sole point of information if you're working above 20V AC.

  • The iFixit multimeter's NCV function detects ~45V AC and above.

  • To use the NCV function, turn the function dial to the NCV mode.

Come usare il rilevatore di tensione senza contatto (NCV)

La funzione Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) ti consente di rilevare la corrente alternata in un circuito o cavo senza doverlo collegare elettricamente.

Il sensore NCV si trova all'interno della protuberanza di plastica sulla parte superiore del multimetro iFixit. La striscia metallica all'interno agisce come un'"antenna" che rileva il campo elettromagnetico generato da una sorgente AC. Questo campo diventa più forte man mano che ci si avvicina alla sorgente.

L'NCV non rileverà la presenza di corrente continua in un circuito o cavo.

L'NCV potrebbe non rilevare sempre un circuito o un cavo sotto tensione. Per motivi di sicurezza, non fare mai affidamento sull'NCV come unica fonte di informazioni se stai lavorando con tensioni superiori a 20V AC.

Per utilizzare la funzione NCV, gira la manopola della funzione sulla modalità NCV.
