  • More security screws line the path forward. One of them even lives under a tamper-evident sticker—thankfully not a "Warranty Void" sticker, which would be illegal. (As always, you get to tinker and keep your warranty so long as you don't damage anything.)

  • As we remove the first half of the black plastic shell, we're greeted by the optical drive.

  • The slender optical drive doesn't put up much of a fight coming out—which would be good for potential replacements, until you actually try a replacement.

  • Just like the Xbox Series X, our test results indicate that the PS5's optical drive is paired to its motherboard. A replacement drive simply won't read discs.

  • There might be a workaround if you're willing to disassemble the drive and keep the original circuit board. We'll update if we get a chance to test that.

Der weitere Weg ist mit noch mehr Sicherheitsschrauben gesäht. Eine davon befindet sich sogar unter dem manipulationssicheren Aufkleber, zum Glück ist es nicht der "Warranty Void" Aufkleber, denn das wäre illegal. (Wie immer kannst du so lange herumbasteln wie du willst ohne deine Garantie zu verlieren, solange du nichts kaputt machst.)

Beim Entfernen der ersten Hälfte der schwarzen Plastikschale, stoßen wir auf das optische Laufwerk.

Dieses schmale optische Laufwerk wehrt sich nicht sehr dagegen, ausgebaut zu werden, was für einen eventuellen Austausch theoretisch gut ist, zumindest bis du dann tatsächlich versuchst, es auszutauschen.

Wie bei der Xbox Series X deuten unsere Testergebnisse darauf hin, dass das optische Laufwerk der PS5 mit seinem Motherboard gekoppelt ist. Ein Ersatzlaufwerk wird daher schlichtweg keine Disks lesen.

Eventuell gibt es vielleicht eine Möglichkeit, das zu umgehen, falls du bereit bist, das Laufwerk zu zerlegen und die originale Platine zu behalten. Wir halten euch auf dem Laufenden, falls wir es schaffen, das zu testen.
