  • We lift the lid off of this curious console, secretly hoping that gems will come flying out for us to collect.

  • Unfortunately we are left empty-handed in the gems department, but there is some pretty cool stuff in here. No dragons, though.

  • First things first, let's carefully dispose of this power supply before we get zapped.

  • This internal power supply is an absolute unit, taking up roughly 20% of the console's footprint. But despite the PlayStation's relatively small size (compared to modern consoles, at least), Sony was able to cram this thing in here seemingly without breaking a sweat.

  • Speaking of breaking a sweat—90's silicon didn't run as hot as today's hardware does, but it's still impressive to see an internal power supply, a whole optical drive assembly, and everything on the main board (more on that later), all running in a fanless configuration.

Solleviamo il cofano di questa curiosa consolle, sperando segretamente che ne schizzino fuori delle gemme volanti che potremo raccogliere.

Purtroppo nel settore gemme ci ritroviamo a mani vuote, ma qui dentro c'è comunque della roba molto interessante. Nessun dragone, però.

Prima, ma davvero prima di tutto, liberiamoci con delicatezza di questa alimentazione prima di rimanerne fulminati.

Questo alimentatore interno è un'unità non trascurabile che occupa circa il 20% dell'impronta della consolle. Ma nonostante la PlayStation sia di dimensioni relativamente piccole (se non altro rispetto alle consolle moderne), Sony sembra sia stata capace di stipare all'interno questa cosa qui senza dover versare una goccia di sudore.

Parlando di sudore, il silicio degli anni '90 non scaldava così tanto come l'hardware di oggi, ma lascia ugualmente stupiti vedere un alimentatore interno, un intero drive ottico e ogni cosa sulla scheda principale (ne parleremo più avanti), tutti in configurazione senza ventola.
