  • From several feet away, our fancy Japanese model (on the right) looks identical to the original North American unit. But upon closer inspection, our peepers notice a few slight differences:

  • The inside of the CD trays are nearly identical, save for some small differences in the plastic molding.

  • The most noticeable cosmetic difference is the PlayStation logos on the lids. The Japanese model sports a bit of green instead of the PlayStation Blue we're used to seeing, as well as a brownish color in the negative space of the logo.

  • What does all this mean? We'll have to run some benchmarks, but we're guessing these rare colors add about 30 horsepower to your car in Gran Turismo. Or, if you're a skater, 15% gnarlier tricks in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

Von weitem sieht unser schickes japanisches Modell (rechts) fast identisch zur originalen nordamerikanischen Einheit aus. Aber bei näherer Betrachtung sind doch ein paar kleine Unterschiede zu entdecken:

Die Innenseiten der CD-Laufwerke sind fast identisch, nur der Kunststoffguss zeigt ein paar kleine Unterschiede auf.

Der auffälligste, rein äußerliche Unterschied ist das PlayStation Logo auf dem Deckel. Bei dem japanischen Modell ist ein Teil des Logos grün statt dem für uns gewohnten blau. Außerdem ist es im japanischen Modell bräunlich unterlegt.

Was heißt das nun? Wir müssen ein paar vergleichende Analysen durchführen, aber wir gehen davon aus, dass dein Wagen bei Gran Turismo durch diese seltenen Farben etwa 30 PS mehr hat. Oder, wenn du ein Skater bist, deine Tricks in Tony Hawks Pro Skater 15% heftiger sind.
