  • Now bezel-less, the screen is primed for prying off! We didn't need any heat last time, but today it seems Samsung isn't taking chances—they want this screen to stay put, and have added an extra sticky strip of black tar goop.

  • The screen is still adhered only along the outer edges—probably to allow the screen to float as it opens and folds.

  • For once, the relative difficulty of replacing the screen is not even our biggest beef. You wouldn't even have to drop this thing to break it, meaning screen replacements seem inevitable, and that's a scary thought.

  • Samsung generously offers to replace it for just $149—but only once, so make sure you use a light touch.

  • Granted, using plastic instead of glass as an OLED substrate means this display is less likely to shatter—but there are other modes of failure.

  • A single ultra-wide display cable connects the display to the board.

  • That means The Verge's reported "jelly scrolling" was probably due to the display driver software, not a split display.

  • Could they have updated the display driver for the second launch? Absolutely! Did we turn ours on to test before we took it apart? You ask too many questions.

Die Einfassung ist weg, jetzt können wir mit dem Hebeln beginnen! Letztes Mal brauchten wir keine Hitze, aber dieses Mal scheint Samsung keine Risiken einzugehen, sie wollen wirklich, dass dieses Display an Ort und Stelle bleibt, und sie haben deshalb einen ganz besonders klebrigen Streifen schwarzen Klebezeugs dazugetan.

Die Displayeinheit ist immer noch nur an den Außenkanten festgeklebt, wahrscheinlich damit das Display beim Öffnen und Schließen beweglich bleibt.

Ausnahmsweise haben wir das größte Problem aber gar nicht damit, dass der Austausch des Displays relativ schwierig ist. Du brauchst dieses Teil nicht einmal fallen zu lassen, damit es kaputt geht, und das heißt, dass ein Display-Austausch unvermeidbar ist, und das macht wirklich Angst.

Samsung bietet großzügig an, es dir für nur 130 € zu ersetzen. Allerdings nur im ersten Jahr, achte also darauf, dass du es nur leicht berührst.

Zugegeben, durch die Verwendung von Kunststoff statt Glas für das OLED Substrat zerbricht dieses Display zwar nicht so leicht, aber es gibt andere Möglichkeiten, wie dieses Display versagen kann.

Ein einziges extra breites Displaykabelverbindet das Display mit der Platine.

Anscheinend lag das von The Verge gemeldete "jelly-scrolling" also wahrscheinlich an der Displaytreiber-Software, und nicht daran, dass das Display gespalten ist.

Kann es sein, dass sie den Display-Treiber für die zweite Markteinführung verbessert haben? Auf jeden Fall! Haben wir unseren zum Testen eingeschaltet, bevor wir es auseinander genommen haben? Du stellst zu viele Fragen.
