  • With the phone now fully open, we head straight for the cameras. First out is the new periscope-style camera module that is said to make up to 50x zoom possible.

  • Instead of resorting to a massive camera bump, this module is rotated 90° from the aperture, laying flat in the phone with a prism refracting the light onto the sensor.

  • But wait—it seems this module isn't used between 1x-5x zoom, coming into play beyond 5x zoom only.

  • The P30 Pro has five cameras in total. Starting at top left: a 20 MP ultra-wide-angle, a 40 MP wide-angle with the Time-of-Flight camera next to it, the 8 MP telephoto (for up to 50x zoom), and of course at top right is the front-facing camera with an impressive 32 MP.

  • Interestingly, the 40 MP camera sensor switched from an RGGB (Red/Green/Green/Blue) bayer filter to a RYYB (Red/Yellow/Yellow/Blue) pattern. This pattern is said to increase light sensitivity, and could help with contrast since they ditched the monochrome sensor from last year's P20 Pro.

Con il telefono che ora è completamente aperto, andiamo dritti alle fotocamere. Per primo ecco il nuovo modulo fotocamera fatto a periscopio che si dice renda possibile lo zoom 50x.

Invece di ricorrere a una vistosa gobba per la fotocamera, questo modulo è ruotato di 90° rispetto all'apertura; posizionato di piatto nel telefono, usa un prisma per portare la luce al sensore.

Un momento: sembra che questo modulo non sia usato per zoomare tra 1x e 5x, ma che scenda in campo solo oltre il 5x.

Il P30 Pro ha un totale di cinque fotocamere. Iniziando da sinistra in alto: una ultra grandangolare da 20 MP, una grandangolare da 40 MP con accanto la fotocamera Time-of-Flight, un teleobiettivo da 8 MP per zoomate fino a 50x e, ovviamente, all'estrema destra c'è la fotocamera frontale con il notevole valore di 32 MP.

Cosa interessante, il sensore da 40 MP è passato da una schema bayer RGGB (Red/Green/Green/Blue) a uno RYYB (Red/Yellow/Yellow/Blue), quindi con metà elementi sensibili al giallo invece che al verde. Questo dovrebbe aumentare la sensibilità e forse favorire il contrasto visto che il sensore monocromatico del P20 Pro è stato abbandonato.
