Remove old foam and fiberglass with a sharp knife, utility knife, or really anything. I found that needle nose pliers work very well for grabbing and twisting.

You really have to just go at it. Don't be afraid to really dig in and use some force. At the end of this there will be a huge gaping section of your board missing.
